Job Description

A reputable chemical manufacturing company based in Kempton Park has a challenging position for a Fixed Asset Accountant.
Purpose of the job
 The Fixed Asset Accountant reports to the Finance Manager and has the primary responsibility to ensure that assets are correctly recorded, reconciled and that management information, in respect of assets, is available on time and in accordance with legislation and the organization’s policy. And to manage the movement of assets within company, calculation of depreciation, forecasting future capital expenditure and the reporting thereof
Experience
• Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in a chemical or similar manufacturing environment as an Asset accountant
Qualifications:
• Matric
• National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting or Financial Accounting
Technical Competencies
• Knowledge and understanding of SAP
• Intermediate Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
• Report writing skills
• Document control
• Knowledge of relevant International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• Risks Assessment

Key performance area
Control and Manage company assets
• Update the new Assets checklist for asset creation to ensure successful acquisition of assets by:
o Registering project in SAP
o Create new asset number
o Inform business unit of asset number
o Capture project completion certificate
o Capitalize asset to start depreciation
o Update asset register with new asset numbers
• Ensure that all disposals and assets acquired are accurately recorded in terms of the company policy, SARS guidelines and accounting standards
• Ensure that assets are depreciated and that the wear and tear allowance and capital gains tax is recorded according to the company policy, SARS guidelines and accounting standards
• Ensure that all stolen assets are claimed from insurance and properly accounted for in the accounting system, within one week after a theft occurs
• Ensure that the assets verification process is undertaken at least twice per annum
• Ensure that assets acquired are numbered and documented, within the agreed time
• Ensure that all documentation is filed, easily retrievable and available for audit
• Carry out periodic reviews on fixed and intangible assets’ impairment
• Perform the necessary valuation adjustment in asset register and record depreciation and or adjustments in SAP
• Ensure effective tracking of assets by preparing tags for new assets, printing physical check forms, performing asset inventory counting, loading physical assets’ information on SAP and validate differences and adjustments required
• Track company’s fixed asset spending in relation to its capital budget as well as management authorization.
• Recommend any updates to accounting policies affecting fixed assets to management
Accounting System
• Record assets and all transactions into the Asset system
• Interface the Asset system to the accounting system to ensure that depreciation and the wear and tear allowance is calculated monthly
• Reconcile the Assets system to the accounting system monthly
Assets Management Reporting
• Compile a variance report reflecting the actual assets against budgeted assets and distribute to various departments
• Run the repair, maintenance and equipment report and export into a spreadsheet for reporting purposes in order to gauge expenditure
• Prepare a capital expenditure report and distribute to the relevant stakeholders
• Calculate and report on deprecation
Contribute to Internal & External Audit
• Serve as a company’s representative at any audits related to fixed assets
• Create fixed assets related audit schedules together with supporting documents and collaborate with auditors on their assignments
• Take corrective action on audit findings
• Ensure that the company complies with accounting standards and the Companies Act
Adhere to Statutory Requirements
• Compile all relevant schedules for company tax purposes regarding assets, repair and maintenance, and equipment (up to agree upon value)
• Ensure that the relevant schedules are compiled for annual finance statements in respect of assets, repair and maintenance, and equipment

Other details:
Salary R350k basic annual salary annum depending on experience (market related)
