Position Overview

This position will form part of the shared services centre and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing processes and procedures that ensure accurate accounting, reporting, controlling, and safeguarding of assets.

Primary Responsibilities

This role is accountable for:

Fixed Asset Management
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system.
  • Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts.
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset register to the general ledger.
  • Calculate the depreciation for all fixed assets for actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.
  • Perform capital project accounting.
  • Investigate and evaluate the potential obsolescence/impairment of fixed assets.
  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of fixed assets, useful life, and residual values review.
  • Recommend whether fixed assets should be disposed of
  • Track expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorisations
  • Perform fixed assets and capital accounting reporting.
  • Liaise with business improvement analyst to ensure clear understanding of project timing and timely capitalization of projects.
  • Overall maintenance of the fixed asset accounting and tax registers

Preforming Budgeting and Planning
  • Assist in tracking project costs in comparison to budget projections.
  • Assist in preparation of annual capital budgeting and planning.
  • Undertake general accounting duties such as assisting in the preparation of budget review
and journal preparations.
  • Evaluate past capital projects resulting in accurate monthly forecasts.
  • Internal Control Policies and Procedures
  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of fixed assets.
  • Assist in the creation of standardized depreciation policies and procedures for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure that all capital spend is correctly authorized as per company authorization levels and policies.
  • Control over spend per project.
Regulatory and Financial Compliance
  • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
  • Assist with providing information for tax returns.
  • Represent the company during any audits that involve fixed assets.
Reporting
  • Prepare monthly management and capital expenditure reports.
  • Prepare variance explanation, statutory and other adhoc reports related to assets
  • Prepare fixed asset journal entries and other asset related transactions like capitalisation of
  • borrowing costs.
Fixed Asset Accounting Process Improvement
  • Recommend any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets.
  • Ability to introduce and implement new policies, procedures and process as they relate to fixed asset management and asset accounting systems.
  • Research and suggest ways to improve the existing procedure and systems.
  • Perform any other asset or financial related adhoc duties and reports as necessary including PPE Roll-Forward Preparation of monthly balance sheet GL reconciliations.
  • Assist in annual internal and external audits by proving required documents and explanation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • National Diploma in Accounting, Finance or related qualification an NQF Level 6
  • Driverxe2x80x99s License (Mandatory)
  • 3 -5 years in asset management and or financial accounting
  • Experience in mining or manufacturing will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial principles (Mandatory)
  • Computer Literacy
  • Excel (Mandatory)
