Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Security Manager in coordinating daily security operations.
Ensure deployment of manpower according to risk and production schedules.
Monitor compliance with access control, patrols, and surveillance procedures
Oversee security shift supervisors and control room operations.
Enforce rules for access of employees, contractors, and visitors.
Oversee gatehouse procedures, visitor registers, and vehicle inspections.
Ensure search and screening protocols (mine property, vehicles, and persons).
Respond to security breaches, accidents, and incidents.
Conduct preliminary investigations into theft, assault, negligence, and misconduct.
Prepare incident reports and maintain evidence integrity.
Monitor CCTV, biometric systems, perimeter alarms, and intrusion tech.
Liaise with technical teams for repairs and system downtime logs.
Implement strategies to prevent theft of chrome/ore, diesel, copper, explosives, tools, and equipment.
Manage escorting of valuable cargo (e.g., concentrate or fuel deliveries).
Assist in ensuring adherence to:
+ Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA)
+ Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHS)
+ PSIRA Regulations
+ Site-specific security SOPs Participate in internal audits and regulatory inspections
Support emergency drills (fire, medical, evacuation).
Coordinate with emergency services and crisis teams.
Update emergency contact rosters.
Conduct routine risk assessments for gates, shafts, tailings, stockpiles.
Identify vulnerabilities such as illegal mining, sabotage, community mobs, protest action.
Supervise security guards, control room operators, and dog handlers.
Conduct toolbox talks and refresher training on procedures.
Assist with disciplinary processes and performance reviews.
ompile daily, weekly, and monthly security performance reports.
Maintain incident registers, access logs, and training records.
Track CCTV downtime and equipment failure.
Ensure guards comply with PPE standards.
Report unsafe conditions or hazards noticed during patrols.
Hold regular meetings with the service providers and ensure that reports are prepared to assist the Security Director during contract review meetings ISO 9001; 14001 & 45001 - Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Standards
Adhere to the Thorburn Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Management System's Policies and Procedures as applicable to this position Ad Hoc

Qualifications
Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification
Security management qualification will be advantageous
PSIRA Grade A certificate
Valid driver's license
Armed Reaction Experience and Qualification (NQF & SASETA recognised)
SAPS Competency to handle a Handgun and Shotgun (Business Purposes)
Crowd/Riot Control Training (Including Conflict Management)
* SETA Approved 4 x 4 Training
