Job Description

Key Responsibilities Production Planning and Management Attend or initiate project briefs. Clarify any unclear details by asking questions to ensure full understanding. If no project brief or kick-off meeting has taken place, ask the general manager to hold a meeting to ensure you get the information needed to start the project Attend production meetings to collaborate with and update the team on planning and stay informed about any project changes. Ask questions and address any production issues. Regularly communicate plans and expectations to ensure the entire team is working towards the same goals. Conduct at least three toolbox talks each week to discuss current issues, including planning, safety, team motivation, progress, and performance. Oversee all day-to-day operations within the wood factory. Manage and direct all daily operations within the wood factory and joinery workshop. Develop, implement, and manage production schedules to ensure project deadlines and delivery dates are met. Plan the workflow and sequence of operations for all joinery projects based on technical drawings and project timelines. Allocate tasks and responsibilities to the production team to optimize efficiency and machine utilisation. Monitor production output and progress, tracking performance against key metrics and targets. Collaborate with the General Manager and Project Managers to align production capacity with project demands. Prepare and provide regular production status reports to senior management. Team Leadership and Supervision Lead, supervise, and motivate the wood factory team, including Senior Machinists, Bench Hands, Assemblers, and CNC Operators. Provide clear direction, technical guidance, and support to all team members. Manage the performance of the team, conducting regular feedback sessions and formal performance reviews. Identify skill gaps and coordinate with HR to arrange for necessary training and development. Ensure discipline is maintained and handle any employee relations issues fairly and in line with company policy. Manage team schedules, including shift patterns, overtime, and leave requests. Quality Control Implement and enforce rigorous quality control standards throughout the entire manufacturing process, from material preparation to final assembly. Ensure that all finished products strictly adhere to the specifications on the technical drawings, including dimensions, materials, and construction methods. Conduct regular inspections of work-in-progress and finished goods to identify and rectify any defects. Promote a "right-first-time" approach within the team to minimize rework and waste. Health, Safety, and Maintenance Uphold and enforce all health and safety regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and company policies. Ensure a safe working environment by conducting regular risk assessments and safety checks. Confirm that all team members are using machinery safely and are wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Oversee the maintenance and servicing of all woodworking machinery and tools, ensuring they are kept in a safe and optimal working condition. Schedule routine preventative maintenance and manage any necessary repairs. Material and Inventory Management Liaise with the Procurement Manager and Storeman to ensure the timely availability of all necessary raw materials (timber, boards, veneers) and consumables (glue, screws, hardware). Implement effective inventory control measures within the factory to track material usage and minimize waste. Ensure all materials are stored correctly to prevent damage or degradation.
