Purpose of Job

To strategically lead the development and implementation of Safety Health and Environment strategy for the business operating cluster. To oversee and manage all safety and health standards, procedures and performance. To identify, develop and execute safety, health and environmental optimisation programmes within OME.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Interpret standards, procedures and best practices related to specialist SHE work (e.g. process and occupational safety, service provider safety management etc.) and SHE capabilities (e.g. SHE risk, incident and assurance management, training etc.).
Co-develop toolkits related to standards and procedures for implementation by Operations.
Effectively evaluate and recommend safe rock engineering practices.
Define rock engineering strategies and policies that efficiently meet group targets and Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) expectations.
Conduct accurate assessments of Sasol's ore body to minimize the risk of unexpected geological incidents.
Monitor the status of implementation of standards, procedures (SHE sub-functional and SHE cross-functional) and best practices.
Support Operations on strategic SHE programs, e.g. the HSI programme.
Support Operations to develop, embed and review the effectiveness of the 1st levels of assurance process, and preparation for 2nd and 3rd party audits.
Support Operations with adherence to ISO standards and SHE legal compliance, including Mine Health and Safety Act and regulations.
Monitor effectiveness of SHE combined assurance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Report on SHE performance and assurance trends.
Provide oversight of SHE maturity in the business and support Operations to address areas to improve SHE maturity.
Agree budget for all functional activities and optimize service delivery within these agreed parameters.
Ensure the effective implementation of Sasol's risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
Ensure optimal SHE structure and provide adequate training to execute functional roles.
Lead culture transformation and embed diversity.
Build capability and leverage diversity for competitive advantage.
