Our client, the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent employment opportunity available for a Technical Training Officer (Lecture) Instrument Mechanician at The Shukela Training Centre (STC) based in Mount Edgecombe, KwaZulu Natal

The Shukela Training Centre (STC) is a well-regarded training institution established about 50 years ago that delivers high quality agricultural training and engineering to learners in the sugar industry and other industries

Skilled artisans are critical to addressing todays' economic challenges and they would like to give you an opportunity to contribute to the training and development of up-and-coming apprentices to be qualified artisans

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Electrical Technical Training Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that training is delivered using appropriate training methods ensures that learners master both the knowledge and skills required for the Instrument Mechanician Trade.
  • Supervising, mentoring and coaching and learners.
  • Conducting formative assessments, moderations and learner performance evaluations in a fair and honest manner.
  • Generating learner course reports and assisting learner in compiling their PoEs.
  • Safe keeping and maintenance of learner records which includes course reports, PoEs, among others.
  • Designing, developing and preparing quality training materials as well as ongoing refinement of training modules and programmes to enhance learner understanding.
  • Assisting in implementing customized training courses to meet customer specific needs.
  • Maintaining an "expert" knowledge level of the Instrument Mechanician trade through undertaking projects and continuous professional development.
  • Ensuring that training equipment is kept in good working order and appearance and is ready to use for each class.
  • Building in learners a "Safety begins with me" work ethic.
  • Carrying out special assignments and projects as delegated by management.
  • Complying and ensuring compliance to the requirements of the OHS Act and STC Safety Standards
Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of a N3 Certificate, or a relevant NQF 4 qualification and have successfully completed a National Trade test in Instrument Mechanician Trade.
  • Minimum of 3 years industry work experience post apprenticeship training.
  • Accreditation by NAMB as an Assessor will be of added advantage.
  • Strong hands-on technical experience coupled with previous experience as a Facilitator/Assessor/Trainer
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Effective communication skills in English are essential however the ability to communicate in IsiZulu would be of added advantage.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office;
