VACANCY: INSTRUMENT MECHANICIAN

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: PERMANENT

GRADE: C-LOWER

DIVISION: SMELTER

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • The Instrument Mechanician is responsible for repairs and maintenance of all industrial instrumentation within the Smelter Business Unit.
  • The role holder will form an integral part in the execution of day-to-day field instruments work and the execution of planned field instruments maintenance.
  • The incumbent will directly report t to the Foreman: Electrical & Instrumentation and will be required to work rotational stand-by with other instrumentation staff to cover the Smelter Business unit.
Major responsibilities
  • Execute industrial instrumentation planned maintenance with certification within specified time and give feedback to Foreman.
  • Promptly attend to any industrial instrumentation and related process control systems breakdowns and callouts.
  • Conduct your work within acceptable quality to improve plant availability and reliability.
  • Manage all maintenance work orders issued to you on time to ensure that weekly and monthly KPIs are met.
  • Assist in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
  • Self-management by:
  • Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
  • Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
  • Ensure that you remain disciplined in line with the companyxe2x80x99s code of conduct.
  • Managing others by:
  • Giving direction to Assistants as may be required by Foreman.
  • Ensuring that all unsafe conditions are reported on time to prevent any incidents or accidents.
  • Complete your weekly work orders (PM03) on time and give feedback to line manager.
  • Participate in risk assessments based on external and internal influences.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required.
  • Ensure compliance with any instruction given with regards to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Ensure compliance with the permit to work system as well as other related protocols.
  • Comply with and ensure that all health and safety rules are met and act proactively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
  • The minimum qualification required is a completed N3 or equivalent with a recognised Trade test certificate in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a National Diploma or higher in Electrical or Process Control Engineering.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with up to 3-5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in the Industrial Instrumentation field.

  • Knowledge of SAP system and MS Office Package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential.
  • A good understanding of the processes related to the Asset Care / Maintenance of the plant equipment performance and administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of different industrial field instruments and associated maintenance thereof.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC including troubleshooting and fault-finding.
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA and Siemens S7 PLC.
  • In-depth knowledge of calibration of instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to identify and proactively address industrial instrumentation faults.
  • Basic knowledge and adherence to the permit to work system.
  • Basic knowledge of HAZOP studies and Management of Change (MOC) protocols.
