A highly regarded boutique fine dining restaurant in Observatory, Cape Town is seeking a Sous Chef or experienced Chef de Partie to support the Chef Patron as a trusted second-in-command. This opportunity is suited to a calm, skilled, and collaborative chef who thrives in a small, high-standard kitchen and values craftsmanship, consistency, and teamwork.
Description
This is a hands-on leadership role within an intimate 18-seat fine dining environment, working closely with the Chef Patron to deliver refined, seasonal menus and memorable guest experiences. The successful candidate will play a key role in daily kitchen operations, prep, and service execution, while guiding and mentoring a small, multi-skilled team.
Responsibilities include overseeing food preparation across all sections, maintaining impeccable hygiene and organisational standards, supporting stock control and ordering, receiving and checking deliveries, and ensuring quality and consistency at all times. Sustainability forms an important part of the kitchen ethos, with active involvement in waste reduction, recycling, and mindful use of resources.
Candidates must be prepared to complete a paid trial day, which will be used to assess technical skill, attitude, leadership ability, and overall fit for a long-term 2IC role. While the position is available immediately, appointments will not be rushed, and emphasis will be placed on quality rather than volume of candidates.
Locally based Cape Town candidates will be prioritised, particularly those already reference-checked, due to operational demands during peak season. There is genuine scope for growth for the right individual with the right mindset.
Salary: R12,000 - R15,000 CTC, dependent on experience and trial performance
Minimum Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior Chef de Partie in fine dining
  • Strong all-round kitchen skills across hot, cold, and pastry sections
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and time management
  • High attention to detail and food safety standards
  • Own reliable transport essential
  • Willingness to complete a trial day
