The SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Coordinator is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems in a chemical manufacturing and warehouse operation. The role ensures compliance with legal requirements, industry standards, and company policies while promoting a proactive SHEQ culture to safeguard people, products, and processes. Envisioned start date: February 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Health & Safety:
Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in line with local legislation (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001) and company standards.
Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identifications.
Ensure proper use, storage, and handling of chemicals in line with MSDS/SDS guidelines.
Lead accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative action implementation.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response drills, including fire, chemical spills, and evacuation procedures.
Provide SHE training, inductions, and toolbox talks to staff, contractors, and visitors.
Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and waste management requirements.
Monitor and report on air emissions, effluent, and chemical waste disposal.
Promote sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement of environmental practices.
Maintain documentation and records for environmental audits and regulatory reporting.
Quality Assurance:
Maintain and support the Quality Management System (ISO 9001 or relevant standard).
Conduct internal quality audits and inspections across manufacturing and warehousing operations.
Ensure incoming raw materials, in-process checks, and finished product testing comply with specifications.
Investigate customer complaints, deviations, and non-conformances; drive corrective and preventative actions.
Work closely with production and warehouse teams to ensure adherence to ISO/BRC/ GMP, SOPs, and product traceability.
Compliance & Reporting:
Stay updated with local and international SHEQ legislation, industry standards, and best practices.
Prepare and submit SHEQ performance reports, KPIs, and compliance documentation.
Coordinate external audits (regulatory, certification, and customer audits).
Manage SHEQ documentation systems and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Continuous Improvement & Culture:
Champion a safety-first and quality-focused culture throughout the organization.
Facilitate training and awareness campaigns to improve employee engagement in SHEQ practices.
Support management in setting SHEQ objectives, monitoring progress, and achieving targets.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Number of safety incidents, near misses, and non-conformances reported and resolved.
Audit scores and certification compliance (ISO, regulatory).
Training completion and competency levels of employees.
Reduction in environmental impact (waste, emissions, spills).
Customer complaint resolution and product quality compliance rate.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
National Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Quality Management, or related field.
SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety certification preferred.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Minimum 3-5 years' experience in SHEQ coordination, ideally within a chemical, manufacturing, or warehousing environment.
Sound knowledge of relevant SHEQ legislation, OSH Act, NEMA, ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), and chemical safety protocols.
Excellent knowledge of MSDS/SDS and chemical handling standards.
Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
COMPUTER LITERACY
Intermediate knowledge in MS Office packages (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
Syspro - preferred.
Basic knowledge of virtual programmes (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
