In this role you will be responsible to support & advise the Factory Management team in all aspects of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) with a strong focus on implementing Market-level initiatives, including developing & driving site initiatives leading to continuous improvement in SHE performance in line with the Nestlxc3xa9 Continuous Excellence mindset of zero accidents and incidents; and compliance to Nestlxc3xa9 and relevant legal requirements.

A day in the life of a SHE Manager:

Strategic

  • Direct and co-ordinate the development and implementation of the site's SHE strategy & program. Recommend factory SHE objectives considering Market and Corporate objectives. Monitor and communicate on performance to improve decision making regarding SHE and to integrate SHE into business decisions.
  • Implement, control, maintain and improve the Site SHE Management systems including achieving and maintaining ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification. Support this through developing and implementing specific plans, tools and initiatives as part of the Factory's SHE programs as well as exercising functional leadership of the TPM SHE pillars.
  • Ensure adherence to all company principles, policies and requirements related to SHE, including NCE, TPM, LEAN, NEMS & NSMS. Manage NIMS as a joint responsibility with Quality. Ensure compliance with SHE-related legal requirements (incl. Occupational Health & Safety Act, the COID Act, and National Environmental Management Act; and necessary by-laws). Develop and sustain a network of regulators/authorities (locally and provincially).
  • Ensure that the site's SHE risks are identified and assessed as the Risk Assessment Team leader and assist in establishing the necessary mitigation or contingency plans.
  • Provide coaching & support to the Plant Manager, Plant Management team and Line Managers to achieve the Factory's SHE objectives and to ensure SHE becomes / remains a line management responsibility. Ensure that SHE performance data is available and correctly managed. Promote the awareness of SHE. Make the Site Management, Line Managers at all levels and Specialist staff aware of legal obligations relating to SHE.
  • Supervision of site Security to ensure that Security Management procedures are in place and adhered to.
Operational
  • Establish the different specialized safety related teams (Fire and Evacuation Team, First Aid teams, Hazmat, Risk Assessment teams and Crisis Committees) as required to respond to issues.
  • Supervise the different specialized groups dealing with SHE, such as Fire team, First aid team, Hazardous material group and Evacuation team.
  • Ensuring that the different technical safety functions (ammonia, boilers, etc) are filled by competent specialists and ensure that the mandatory technical inspections have been run according to the legal and corporate specifications.
  • Ensure that SHE incident investigations are conducted, the root causes are identified, and the follow-up actions are completed. Advise Management about preventive and corrective measures.
  • Assist the Factory Engineer with the establishment of the SHE related investment and operational budgets for the site.
  • Contribute to the elaboration and implementation of a safety concept in construction and/or installation projects and ensure that all contractors who perform work on the site comply with all Nestlxc3xa9 SHE requirements and have completed necessary documentation.
  • Conduct SHE internal audits, cross-audits of other sites and/or Markets and service provider/supplier/contractor SHE audits.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out according to the SHE Policies, standards, and procedures, by implementing and maintaining a behavioral based SHE (BBSHE) program on the site.
  • Report and analyze the monthly and annual SHE statistics and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ensure that there is a good communication and regular interaction with the Site Occupational Health Nurse on all occupational health and safety issues, particularly incident recording, incident investigations, COID Act documentation, safety statistics, medical surveillance, and health risk assessments. Reconcile OHN injury reports with HR timecards.
  • Identify the SHE training needs for the site, develop a SHE Training Matrix and ensure that the training is completed. Organize continuous SHE education and training programs for management and employees.
  • Submit monthly SHE KPIs onto NEST, and other information as and when required by management.
