1. Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
The Senior Manager: Strategic Projects is to support the MTN Group's Partnerships, Multilateral Advocacy and Resource mobilisation initiatives to support the Group and Operations across MTN markets. The role will be instrumental in mobilising partnerships, resources and common positions for the industry and the broader private sector in line with the Group's Stakeholder Engagement Framework, Strategy and Policies.

3. Context
MTN seeks to position itself as a Pan African partner of choice to the regulators, public and private sectors as well as multilateral and development financing institutions through MTN services, value creation and differentiators by utilising innovative strategic interventions and platforms. This requires vigorous partnerships and resource mobilisation amidst some geopolitical and local uncertainties across all markets in which MTN operates. The Group's Sustainability & Corporate Affairs function under which this role falls must therefore ensure the successful delivery in the context of:
  • An ever changing global balance of interests and the public policy environment.
  • Complex and rapid evolution of technology and regulation.
  • Macro-social and political climate intricacies of our operating environment
  • The geographic complexity of MTN's footprint across Africa and the Middle East
  • Need to balance the needs of various stakeholder groups against each other
  • Interdependencies between public and private sector
  • Dynamic and fast changing organisational requirements

4. Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)
The Senior Manager: Strategic Projects will, contribute to the positioning of MTN as a trusted partner of choice, through driving impactful partnerships and building relationships.
The Senior Manager will be accountable to achieve the following objectives: * Facilitating for the forging of alliances
  • Research and position papers on mainstream and alternative global governance institutions and alliances.
  • Manage and influence relationships with key stakeholders as prioritised in the Group's reputation and stakeholder management framework to ensure sustainable collaborations and strengthen MTN's networking capacity.
  • Increase the MTN profile by contributing and leading transformational discussions at multiple levels through, amongst others, economic diplomacy
  • Drive and coordinate a group wide stakeholder management and resource mobilisation efforts at multilateral and development financing platforms, amongst others
  • Support MTN in remaining abreast of global developments in cooperation between the Private Sector, Public Sector and Civil Society and plan for MTN's leadership to be represented adequately in the multilateral engagements and global platforms.
  • Contribute to additional and matching resource mobilisation for MTN projects and initiatives including strategizing with and mobilising:
  • Internal stakeholder and corporate partners and platforms such as and operating businesses as well as relevant foundations and business units,
  • Relevant implementation delivery partners who may be at times external organisations,
  • Donor and financing partners.
  • Government and Public Sector including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), amongst others,
  • Private Sector and industry partners including bilateral and multi-lateral Business-to-Business initiatives, amongst others
  • Contribute to the public education and engagement initiatives of the MTN Group and the broader sector which, include but are not limited to:
  • The GSMA's G6 initiative which seeks to promote initiatives behind sustainable digital economy.
  • Advancing dialogues to support acceleration of digital and financial inclusion.
  • Facilitating for initiatives that advance youth & women digital skills and promote rural inclusion.
  • Initiate common private sector platforms of action and solidarity
  • Promoting evidence based decision making and sustainable development models
Role Dependencies
  • Active support to Group General Manager: Stakeholder Management and Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer
  • Deep understanding of the MTN business strategy
  • Understanding of geopolitical environment and Africa's development priorities
  • Alignment to continental and global targets and goals

5. Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
Education:
  • Minimum 4-year degree in Development Financing, Economics, International Relations, Political Studies, Diplomacy, or related fields.
  • Postgraduate degree
  • Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional body as required for role.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years senior management experience or more
  • Minimum 3 years Relevant sector/industry/area of specialisation (understanding DFIs and emerging markets advantageous)
  • Experience working in a medium to large organization
  • Demonstrable experience of working in 2 or more countries in Africa and the Middle East, as well as in or with multilateral and/or development financing institution
  • Stakeholder management development and implementation experience

  • Key customers: MTN Group Board, Group President & CEO, Group Executive Committee, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officers, Group General Manager: Stakeholder Management, Opco CEOs, Manco Divisions, business, functional and platform businesses.
  • Key stakeholders: Continental and regional bodies, Development Financing Institutions, Host nations governments, Industry and Private Sector Bodies, the Diplomatic Corps etc.
  • Key suppliers: Government and stakeholder relations consultancies, Resource Mobilisation Agencies, Market Intelligence and Research Agencies.
