Job Description

CPUT Libraries are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Librarian to oversee the Technical Services and Collection Development department, providing strategic leadership and direction in the acquisition, management, and delivery of print and electronic information resources. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the teaching, learning, and research activities of CPUT.
The key responsibilities of the Senior Librarian Technical Services and Collection Development Librarian include the following:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Technical Services and Collection Development, including Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Collection Development, E-Resources, Processing of New Library Resources, Library Finance, and Inter-Library Loans.
  • Manage the acquisition of print and electronic information resources, ensuring alignment with CPUT's teaching, learning, and research priorities.
  • Manage the library budget (including the Collection development budget) in consultation with the Library Director.
  • Provide expert advice on collection development, resource sharing, and library technical services.
  • Lead and manage a team of technical services staff, fostering a culture of excellence and customer service.
  • Collaborate with academic and library staff to ensure library collections meet the needs of CPUT's academic programmes.
  • Oversee the description and discovery of all information resources purchased, subscribed to and owned by the library.
  • Participate in Library Management Committee meetings, contributing to library-wide strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Report directly to the Library Director, ensuring alignment with institutional policies on resource procurement and management
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements
  • 4-year honours degree in Library and Information Science/Studies (BTech, BBil, BInfo Sci. (Hon))
  • 5 years' experience in managing and/or working within technical services and collection development environment in an academic library environment
Recommendations
  • Managing library finances i.e. preparing and managing annual budgets
  • Knowledge of library IT systems
  • A paid-up member of LIASA
  • Ability to work across CPUT campuses
  • Master's degree in library and information science
