Job Description


1. Effective Dispute Resolution
1.1 Through effective dispute resolution, involving employees and management, assist the company to avoid expensive litigation, strikes and other business disruptions.
1.2 The ability to settle labour-management disputes through mediation and resolutions, rather than costly court battles.
1.3 Strive to develop and maintain a positive relationship between the management and employees.
1.4 Managing the effective implementation of grievance procedures and disciplinary code.
1.5 Hear grievance from employees and ensure that they are resolved.
2. Skilled Application of IR Principles
2.1 Implementing Shift systems and short time effectively and in line with company procedures
after sign off by the Group Head of HR of the process and documentation
2.2 Ensuring legislative compliance: implementing compliance with applicable legislation and conditions of service
2.3 Professional development of meeting minutes as per the meeting template and feedback given on meeting minutes until action complete.
2.4 Responsible for updating of monthly IR Report to Group Head of HR
2.5 Weekly & Monthly reports on discipline, grievance, for temporarily and permanent employees
3. Industrial Relation Strategy Implementation
3.1 Ensure that company policy and procedures are enforced correctly and consistently.
3.2 Consolidating records of all CCMA procedures, disciplinary, grievance and union membership
for the Group Head of HR
3.3 Support Human Resources Department and line management in managing relationship
among employees and management.
3.4 Full participation in the Employment Equity Committee and in the implementation of an effective EE committee for the group
3.5 Contributing to job classification by understanding the current practices in the group of wages, salaries, working hours, shifts needs
3.6 Ensuring training is adequate for members of the EE Committee
3.7 Facilitate the development of diversity and inclusion through the EE Committee.
Key performance indicators
1. Be informed, research and keep up to date with the South African Labour Law and various
2. Continually analyse and develop operating procedures as it relates to IR, ER and HR
3. Manage grievances and grievance procedures timeously and ensure management are updated.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Relevant qualification in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or a related field
2. Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a unionized environment
3. Solid understanding of labour laws and regulations, particularly in managing CCMA cases
4. Knowledge of HR practices, policies, and procedures
5. Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications;

1. Attention to detail, systems oriented, organized, analytical.
2. Able to resolve conflicts and manage grievances.
3. Good communication skills in English and sound ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
