Job Description


Our client in the Water industry is currently looking for a Senior Estimator, in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the submission of competitive and compliant bids mainly, but not limited to, the Public sector.
  • To grow the companyxe2x80x99s business.
  • Daily scanning of CSD, newspapers, Tradeworld, Online Tenders and key client websites for tender prospects, reviewing these with the Head of Department, circulating selected prospect source documents within company as required.
  • Maintaining the schedule of tenders, contracts awarded and opportunities for presentation at the weekly business development meeting with Senior Management.
  • Ensure that the GO/NO GO reports are compiled and submitted for decision and review with Departmental Head.
  • Once decision made to tender by Departmental Head, pass all relevant documentation to Departmental Personal Assistant (xe2x80x9cPAxe2x80x9d for incorporation in a xe2x80x9cQxe2x80x9d tender file).
  • Arrange for collection of documents, using regional staff or PA if required.
  • Ensure that timeous arrangements are made for a suitably qualified person to attend the site briefing meeting for selected tender prospects and that clear notes of the meeting are obtained from the attendee.
  • Maintain the potential tender whiteboard and spreadsheet to track status of potential projects.
  • Issue, follow up and assess requests for Quotations from sub-contractors, suppliers and specialist service providers, recommending best options to the relevant tender leader.
  • Ensure that the supplier data base is maintained and that key quotes are copied to the central data base and Q file.
  • Prepare, enter and check the electronic Bill of Quantities against the hard copy BoQ using the standard Excel or CCS (Candy) models.
  • Ensure and record the involvement of the User/Implementing Department through all stages of the bid process.
  • Assist with the final document completion, including returnable documents as required.
  • Ensure that the bid is submitted on time and in the format required by the Employer.
  • Ensure that reviews of unsuccessful bids are carried out and reported to the weekly business development meeting.
  • Ensure that a hand-over, to the Implementing Department of every contract awarded, is carried out.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping meets the standards as set out in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Maintain ISO work procedures at a high level.
  • Stay up to date with public tender documentation and requirements for valid tenders.
Requirements:
  • Preferred: BSC/Btech Mechanical (preferred) or Civil Eng.
  • Essential: Diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
  • 10 years' experience as an Estimator, with prior practical experience in Mechanical and Electrical Construction, Civil, Pipeline, preferably within the Water sector.
  • 5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of the application and interpretation of the SAICE, FIDIC and NEC contract frameworks.
  • Practical Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Construction experience within the Water sector.
  • Knowledge of the various competitors, contractors and suppliers within the Water sector, both National and Local.
  • A good understanding of the various tender contract and sub-contract frameworks, SAICE, FIDIC, NEC, CIDB and National Contract frameworks.
  • Ability to read, write, present and converse in business English.
  • Robust expertise and hands-on experience in, and understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project as well as the CCS (Candy) bidding system.
  • Scrupulous in completing compliant bids.
  • To manage activities and tasks, whilst working under pressure, with tight deadlines.
  • Awareness of workplace Health and Safety environment and requirements

Remuneration:
  • Dependent on experience and qualification.
