Senior Estimator in Johannesburg

Are you an experienced Estimator looking for an exciting opportunity in Johannesburg? We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team and play a key role in our business development and tendering process. If you have a background in mechanical or civil engineering, quantity surveying, and a proven track record in estimating, this could be the perfect role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily scanning of CSD, newspapers, Tradeworld, Online Tenders, and key client websites for potential tender prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to review and select viable tender prospects.
  • Maintain a schedule of tenders, contracts awarded, and opportunities for presentation at business development meetings.
  • Compile GO/NO GO reports for decision-making and review with the Departmental Head.
  • Prepare and organize tender documentation, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Coordinate site briefing meetings for selected tender prospects and gather comprehensive notes.
  • Manage the potential tender white-board and spreadsheet to track project status.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors, suppliers, and service providers for obtaining and assessing quotations.
  • Maintain supplier database and ensure key quotes are properly recorded.
  • Prepare, enter, and verify the electronic Bill of Quantities using standard software models.
  • Involve the User/Implementing Department throughout the bid process.
  • Assist with the final completion of tender documents.
  • Ensure timely submission of bids in the required format.
  • Conduct reviews of unsuccessful bids and report findings to the business development meetings.
  • Facilitate a smooth handover of awarded contracts to the Implementing Department.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and ISO work procedures.
  • Stay updated on public tender documentation and requirements.
Requirements:
  • BSc/BTech in Mechanical (preferred) or Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
  • Diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as an estimator in mechanical and electrical construction, civil, pipeline, preferably within the water sector.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the SAICE, FIDIC, and NEC contract frameworks.
  • 5 years of experience as a quantity surveyor/estimator in mechanical and electrical construction, civil, pipeline, preferably within the water sector.
  • Familiarity with the competitors, contractors, and suppliers in the water sector.
  • Proficiency in SAICE, FIDIC, NEC, CIDB, and National Contract frameworks.
  • Expertise in MS Word, Excel, Project, and CCS (Candy) bidding system.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to sites and potential employers' offices.
  • Valid driver's license.
