Risk Officer reporting to the PC General Manager
New Concept Mining, Aeroton, Johannesburg, South Africa

Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Risk Officer to assist our manufacturing company's management team. As a Risk Officer, you will play a crucial role in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating potential risks that could impact our operations, employees, financial performance, safety, environmental aspects, reputation, and site security at all NCM sites. Your expertise and strategic approach will contribute significantly to the company's overall success and sustainability.

Health and Safety training

Knowledge & Experience

Proven work experience as a Risk Officer, Risk Manager, or similar role in the manufacturing industry.
Strong knowledge of risk management principles, practices, and methodologies.
Familiarity with safety regulations, environmental compliance, security practices, and industry-specific risk factors.
Leading investigations
Audit (forensic will be advantageous)

At least 5 years' Security industry exposure
Track record of value adding in a Corporate Environment through risk mitigation
Report writing skills

Responsibilities
NCM Site(s) Security

Direct and co-ordinate the activities of the Security Department to ensure the safety of all the employees, visitors and company property.
Assess site security risks and vulnerabilities, both internal and external, and develop appropriate security measures.
Implement and maintain security protocols, access controls, and surveillance systems to protect company assets and personnel.
Collaborate with security personnel and management to ensure site security policies and procedures are followed.
Conduct periodic security audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.
Ensure all employed security equipment is operational and maintained by the necessary service providers.
Guide implementation of complimentary monitoring equipment and strategies to safeguard organisation

Risk Management

Assist management in the monitoring and mitigation of all risk.
Monitor external risk factors through the engagement on community/business forums.
Conduct thorough risk assessments across all departments and operational processes.
Identify potential risks related to manufacturing operations, supply chain, product quality, health, safety, environmental impacts, reputation, and site security.
Analyze data and reports to identify emerging risks and trends.
Drafting of Risk policies and procedures
Regularly review safety protocols, environmental practices, and security measures, updating them as needed to reflect industry best practices.

H & S

Collaborate with the Health and Safety team to identify workplace hazards, assess risks, and establish control measures.

Participate in H & S committees.

Emergencies

Implement and enhance emergency response plans to handle safety and environmental incidents effectively.
Co-ordinate all emergency related evacuations / events
Respond to emergency related alarm activations (fire and security, etc.)
Assist and consult with the appointed Crisis Committee on all crisis related matters
Vendor and suppliers

Assess risks associated with vendors and suppliers, particularly in terms of safety, environmental practices, and security protocols.
Ensure that vendors and suppliers adhere to safety, environmental, and security standards and follow appropriate risk management procedures.

Training

Conduct safety, environmental, and security risk management training sessions for employees to promote risk-awareness and adherence to protocols.
Educate employees on security awareness, reporting suspicious activities, and their role in maintaining a secure work environment.
Encourage a culture of safety, environmental consciousness, and security vigilance throughout the organization.

Compliance and regulatory affairs

Stay up-to-date with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements, including those related to safety, environmental standards, and site security.
Ensure the company's adherence to all legal, safety, environmental, and security obligations.
Coordinate internal and external audits to assess compliance levels.

Investigations

Lead and coordinate responses to safety, environmental, and security risk-related incidents and emergencies.
Liaise with SAPS when required.

Demonstrate commitment to Epiroc and NCM core values

Maintain healthy and productive working relationships with all departments (and individuals within the departments) across the organisation.
Maintain professional and productive relationships with customers, contractors and suppliers.
Engage with the Epiroc Group National Facilities and Security manager
