Reactor Operations require a Mechanical Engineer to support the Chief Design Engineer, the responsibility of the engineer will be to assist in reactor and systems design, contribute to engineering modifications, and ensure that designs meet safety and regulatory standards. The engineer will participate in incident investigations, technical reviews, and configuration management of SSC, developing solutions to complex engineering problems in a highly regulated nuclear environment. The role supports broader engineering initiatives aimed at improving reactor performance, safety and supporting the Ageing Management Programme, which forms part of the Long-Term Operation (LTO) of SAFARI-1 beyond 2030.
Key Performance Areas
System Engineering & Technical Support to improve plant availability
Provide system engineering and technical expertise to Reactor Operations for the allocated mechanical engineering system related SSC's
Assist in designs (i.e. Concept, Basic, etc.) development emanating from engineering changes, upgrades and modifications of mechanical engineering system related SSC's;
Provide engineering input to the detail design phases of projects related to mechanical engineering system related SSC's
Participate in design reviews, and update design accordingly of mechanical engineering system related SSC's to ensure that all Reactor Operations SSC's are designed functionally safe and efficient.
Development of engineering documents related to engineering change management process (i.e. Facility Change Proposal (FCP), Technical specifications, test procedures, Installation & Commission Plans etc.), project management & other business processes
Application of internationally acceptable standards during the design process of new installations /upgrades of existing SSCs;
Ensure adherence to Configuration Management (CM) process by conducting CM audits to identify gaps in order to establish and maintain a design baseline for mechanical engineering system related SSC's for the facility
Participate in installation, testing and commissioning of new installations/ upgrades of existing mechanical engineering system related SSC's;
Working collaboratively and provide support to design engineers, operations & production, purchasers, reactor support and other internal staff
Liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities including Nuclear regulators and Authorities;
Participate in mechanical engineering system related SSC's plant incident/failure investigations
Assist in analysing data and presenting findings in written reports
Provide input in SSC's Plant Life cycle management
Personnel & Project Management
Ensure development towards registration as Professional Engineer (Pr Eng.) with ECSA.
Assist with new project identification and definition
Provide input to project feasibility studies for the proposed engineering changes, upgrades and modifications of mechanical engineering system related SSC's
Preparation and review of project related licensing documentation
Participate in Reactor Operations, including Ageing Management Programme projects either as project leader, project member or in a support role.
