Production Manager

Job Description

Job Summary This is a hands-on leadership position with no supervisory layer between the Production Manager and the production team -- meaning strong technical acumen and the ability to engage directly with setters and operators is essential.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a plastic injection moulding factory
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume, high-variety manufacturing environments
  • Strong technical knowledge - must be able to understand and explain technical issues to production teams (especially setters)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a production management or similar senior role
  • South African Citizen with a Code 08 driver's license
  • Technical qualification (N6, National Diploma, or Degree in Production/Operations Management, Engineering, or Industrial Technology).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint (and preferably database systems).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily production operations, schedules, and team performance
  • Lead and coach production staff directly (no supervisors in place)
  • Oversee injection moulding machine settings, equipment performance, and troubleshooting
  • Monitor and report on key metrics: scrap %, cycle time, absenteeism, delivery timelines
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across production and process areas
  • Collaborate with Quality to resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain production records and ensure ISO 9001:2015 compliance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
  • Take full responsibility in the absence of the General Manager
Skills & Competencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Strong planning, coordination, and leadership abilities
  • Hands-on problem solver with excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable with performance reporting, data analysis, and audits
  • High attention to detail, quality-driven, and systems-orientated
KPIs Include:
10 man-days absenteeism per month * 95% compliance with MRP schedules
  • 100% production & absenteeism reporting
  • Zero tolerance for quality non-compliance or production delays
