Pastry Chef - Contract Catering - Franschhoek
We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Pastry Chef to join a well-established contract catering operation in Franschhoek. This role is ideal for a passionate pastry professional who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and takes pride in consistency, presentation, and quality.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a wide variety of baked goods, pastries, cakes, and desserts while maintaining the highest food safety and hygiene standards.
Salary: R25,000 basic per month
Description

  • Prepare and bake a diverse range of pastries, cakes, desserts, and baked goods according to established recipes and standards
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients accurately to ensure consistency and quality
  • Decorate and present baked goods to a high visual and culinary standard
  • Monitor oven temperatures and adjust settings to ensure correct baking results
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the pastry section, equipment, and workstations
  • Collaborate with the wider kitchen team to meet daily production requirements
  • Assist with stock control, inventory management, and ordering of pastry ingredients
  • Contribute to menu development by researching trends and assisting with new and seasonal pastry offerings
  • Ensure strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (essential)
  • Formal training in baking or culinary arts (advantageous)
  • Food Handler's Certificate or relevant food safety certification (advantageous)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in baking and confectionery with a diverse skill set
  • Proven ability to work weekends and evenings as per operational requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and pastry equipment
  • Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to follow recipes precisely while also applying creativity and innovation
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise under pressure
  • High attention to detail and commitment to consistent quality
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
