VACANCY: MASON AND BUILDING SUPERVISOR

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: FIXED TERM CONTRACT (3 MONTHS)

GRADE: C-LOWER

DIVISION: SMELTER

CLOSING DATE: 17 SEPTEMBER 2023

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • The Mason and Building Supervisor is responsible for maintenance of the Refractory section and all other work not associated with mechanical and electrical work such as building, plumbing, and painting work at the Smelter as well as the co-ordination required to get contractors through the Rand Refinery security and screening systems to site for all departments.
  • The role holder will provide and implement control systems and policies whilst optimising the interface between the maintenance unit and the customers.
  • The role holder will form an integral part in the implementation and execution of planned maintenance programmes for the Smelter, in line with optimising reliability of all plants, buildings and equipment.
  • The role holder will be accountable for the execution of all maintenance interventions in line with best practices to ensure plant safety, maximum plant availability and reliability in a cost-effective manner. It may be required to work rotational stand-by with other Masons as when required.
  • The incumbent will be reporting to the E&I Foreman.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage resources for optimal performance.
  • Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
  • Self-management by:
  • Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
  • Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
  • Managing others by:
  • Conducting biannually performance reviews of sub-ordinates.
  • Compiling PDP for subordinates.
  • Ensuring that subordinates attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
  • Ensuring discipline is maintained as per company policies.
  • Compile building standards in conjunction with the Reliability and Engineering Managers.
  • Work in conjunction with the Reliability team in setting up maintenance plans for Smelter mason and building services.
  • Take accountability for the execution of all related maintenance activities in line with set maintenance plans.
  • Work in conjunction with the Reliability Manager and Senior Manager Engineering in preparing the Mason and Building budget.
  • Participate in risk assessments based on external and internal influences.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required (includes SHEQ audits).
  • Execute Mason and General building with the aim of meeting, and where possible, exceeding Maintenance Performance KPIxe2x80x99s.
  • Able to read drawings and complete work accordingly.
  • Able to ensure that building and other work is compliant to the relevant safety regulations.
  • Able to identify and rectify Mason and General building problems which have been brought to your attention by either the internal team or Contractors.
  • Monitor and share company-wide similarities/learning opportunities.
  • Ensure statutory compliance to building and other infrastructure within the Smelter.
  • Implement, drive and monitor zero harm, practices, systems and processes, in areas of safety, health and environment.
  • Demonstrate felt safety leadership, amongst direct and indirect reports.
  • Comply with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
  • Manage the health and safety of relevant subordinates and Contractors, also ensure that injuries occur.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A completed Matric qualification.
  • A N3 Mechanical/ Electrical qualification, coupled with a recognised Trade Test certificate in Masonry trade.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who at least have 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • SAP PM and/ or other CMMS experience would be advantageous.

  • Ability to manage employees and contractors.
