About The Opportunity

The Management Accountant (MA) is responsible for driving finance strategy and efficiency to assist in developing the Corporate Brands within Flight Centre Travel Group. Specifically focusing on growing the business model toward long term profit improvement and sustainability. The MA needs to have a high level of attention to detail, as accuracy is essential in the role. The MA is responsible for Profit and Loss statements, preparation of area reports and reviews. Analysis and interpretation of monthly results and following up on significant variances are core skill sets which will ensure success in this role. Ensure compliance with company policies by applying the relevant accounting standards, maintaining the highest standard of financial control and ensuring that at all times Flight Centre Travel Group's minimum standards for financial systems and procedures are adhered to.

Primary duties and responsibilities (KRAs)

1. Reporting

  • Process all routine month end journal entries and perform all of the required month process in order to close off month end and report on company performance
  • Ensuring all internal and external reporting deadlines are met
  • Preparation of Monthly Handbooks as required by the corporate brands
  • Preparation of ad hoc reports as required by the business
  • Responsible for assisting with the preparation of yearly, half yearly audit packs
  • Preparation of client analysis reports (e.g. Trading Account Analysis, Client Profitability Reports)
  • Update and report the daily KPI to the business
2. Yearly Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Responsible for compiling budgets for each area of responsibility
  • Responsible for loading budgets into the system
  • Consistency and accuracy in the preparation of business estimate/forecast on a weekly basis
3. Adhoc Reporting and Analysis
  • Financial analysis of monthly actual and forecast operational results
  • Monthly expense analysis vs. budgets; vs. estimates and providing feedback to the business on fluctuations and overspending
  • Assist Business Leaders with understanding the financial implications of business decisions through commercial awareness, preparation of ad hoc analysis and ongoing tracking of business performance
  • Provide appropriate levels of challenge to the business with the aim of protecting profits
  • Ad hoc commercial analysis as required
4. Business Support
  • Loading wages for the relevant employees in their area of responsibility
  • Daily supplier payments as needed
  • Reconciliation of spend on pre-paid cards, ensuring spend is in line with company expense policies and is supported by valid documentary evidence
  • Making sure that the expense policy is understood and being enforced where necessary
  • Have a good knowledge of the companies policies to be able to aid front end staff accordingly
  • Ensuring that business leaders adhere to financial policies
5. Financial Control
  • Improve and maintain financial control within the Corporate business and identify opportunities for efficiencies and reducing risk
  • Ensure business leaders are operating within financial minimum standards
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls and business processes
  • Work with FC to address areas of concern identified by internal and external audit, ensuring that corrective action is taken where needed
  • Deployment of group finance policies across the business
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring compliance with standards set by Group Financial Reporting and Compliance frameworks
6. Leadership and Development
  • Embrace an attitude for continual development and have a clear BOF plan within the company
  • Create and regularly review personal development plan
  • Identify simpler, smarter ways of carrying out responsibilities and challenge the status quo
Experience & Qualifications
  • 3-5 years' finance experience
  • 1-2 years management accountant experience
  • Strong level of commercial acumen
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Track record of strong customer focus
  • Excel Intermediate / Advanced
  • Track record of strong oral & written communication & interpersonal skills
  • Track record of being accurate, deadline driven and detail oriented
  • Strong time management - flexible and able to balance multiple priorities
  • Systems experience: Protas (FCM and CT accounting package); GAS; SUN and Oracle (group reporting systems)
Education and qualification:

Minimum Requirement: Completed or working towards a Business/Commerce/Accounting degree

Added Advantage: Completed accounting articles; Completed a post graduate Business/Commerce/Accounting degree
