The HR and Payroll Officer will oversee and manage the organization's payroll operations and HR functions. The role combines strategic leadership and operational excellence to ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance with labor laws, and effective HR support for employee development and engagement.
Key Responsibilities: Payroll Management:
Oversee and process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
Maintain payroll records, including employee data, earnings, deductions, benefits, and leave balances.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and labor laws.
Conduct payroll reconciliations and generate payroll reports for management.
Manage third-party payments, including retirement funds, medical aid, and garnishments.
Handle payroll audits and resolve discrepancies.
Sage VIP knowledge will be advantageous
HR Management:
Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with company goals.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
Manage employee relations, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive work environment.
Administer performance management processes, including goal-setting, evaluations, and development plans.
Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
Ensure compliance with South African labor legislation and employment standards.
Benefits & Compensation:
Design and manage employee benefits programs.
Evaluate and recommend compensation structures to maintain market competitiveness.
Provide guidance on salary negotiations and promotions.
Industrial Relations:
Representing the company at the CCMA
Organize hearings, gather evidence, represent the company in hearings.
Knowledge of labor laws
Drafting and issuing of warnings
Dealing with unions
HR Reporting:
Generate and present HR reports to senior management.
Monitor key HR metrics, including turnover rates, absenteeism, and payroll costs.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
5+ years of experience in HR and payroll management.
In-depth knowledge of South African labor laws, tax regulations, and payroll systems.
Proficiency with payroll software (e.g, Sage) and HRIS systems.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
