Job Summary Owner and driver of the combined assurance programme for the AFS group
Delivery of proactive end to end risk/controls assurance services for Insurance group and support areas e.g. Non Banking Financial Services), in line with the combined assurance agenda in the business and in line with the Absa assurance standard.
The role includes risk/issue prevention, risk/issue identification, risk/issue remediation & tracking and risk/issue escalation & reporting



Accountability:

Combined assurance:

o Own and drive the combined assurance programme for the AFS group

o Ongoing engagement of all assurance stakeholders to ensure plan delivery and coordination

o Development of combined assurance dashboards and reporting thereof

o Drive the combined assurance annual planning process in line with group timelines and approach

2nd Line Assurance Testing:

Execution of assurance testing

Supplement assurance activity performed by external assurance providers with internal assurance activity in collaboration with the Risk Assurance Manager in the Insurance Group, in line with the Absa assurance standard.

This includes engagement planning, design testing and operational effectiveness testing and assigning of appropriate remedial action.

Perform or facilitate deep dives and root cause analysis testing where required. Accountability: Influencing assurance agenda

In collaboration with the Insurance Head of control function and Risk Assurance Manager, complete the CPA risk identification process to drive combined assurance focus areas on a continuous basis.

Other:

Support business management in the identification and effective management of risks to which the business may be exposed, ensuring that an effective control environment exists which is actively managed across all areas of responsibility with a view to reducing operational losses and improving business effectiveness.

The role includes risk/issue prevention, risk/issue identification, risk/issue remediation & tracking and risk/issue escalation & reporting.

Supports functional teams to implement the portfolio risk strategy, risk and control assessments (CPA), and the management of key risk indicators

Responsible for regular reporting on assurance activities, both periodic, but also for specific engagements and across multiple governance forums.

Education and experience required.

  • B degree, National Diploma/Higher Cert, preferably Internal Audit, Risk Management or Assurance related.
  • Professional Certification - CIA / IAT or similar
  • Previous experience of audit and operational improvement within the financial industry
  • Highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm. Knowledge and skills: (Maximum of 6)
  • Knowledge of banking operations, governance, controls, risk, assurance and audit.
  • Understanding of the control and operational issues in financial institutions and able to demonstrate the application of the knowledge.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical and structured thinking and planning skills.
  • Politically astute and able to understand the dynamics of multicultural organizations, with strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Education

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
