Job Purpose
The Clinical practice instructor for Clinical Chemistry has the overall objective of teaching and mentoring both Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and 4th year students in the field of chemical pathology. The aim of the position is to prepare students for the final summative assessment, which will allow the student to register with the HPCSA and practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Minimum Requirements: Clinical Practice Instructor

A BHSc/B.Tech or equivalent qualification in Biomedical Sciences. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist in the discipline of Clinical Chemistry: Independent Practice. At least 2 years' experience working in a medical diagnostic laboratory (discipline: Clinical Chemistry). Experience with training students in the field of medical technology/medical laboratory science at a Higher Education institution or within a laboratory environment.

Preference will be given to applicants with Higher Education experience.*

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Mentoring and teaching students in the discipline of clinical chemistry within the clinical practice laboratory. Develop appropriate practical training and assessment programmes in line with academic and professional expectations of the BHSc Medical Laboratory Science program. Liaise with industry partners. Be involved and assist with quality assurance and regulatory body accreditation, particularly as it relates to practical training. Be involved in any other teaching, learning, and administrative tasks as required by the department. Competencies
