Job Advert Summary
Job Purpose

  • Develop a strategic plan to grow International footprint and GWP
  • Custodian of Technical Underwriting and Risk Management including Risk Surveys
  • Develop New Business and maintain Key Accounts
  • Manage International Operations and Technical Managers
Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting: Provide necessary reporting on financial and operational indicators relating to underwriting i.e. GWP, cost management, audit results, underwriting results etc. Provide feedback (reporting) on achievements, pending issues, problems and suggested recommendations to the Head of Engineering
  • Talent management, employee development plans, performance management and discipline
  • Technical expertise: Excellent knowledge and experience on the fundamentals of the engineering business, policy wording, product knowledge, market pricing and reinsurance.
  • Risk Management: Referrals and recommendations following underwriting principles. Query branches on business written outside minimum rating requirements. Review of loss ratios, broker/agent agreements, ensure compliance with rating, underwriting principles and reinsurance.
  • Review Bespoke or Broker wording.
  • Relationship Management: Interact frequently with branches, brokers and/or agents and clients where required.
  • Coaching and support: Providing informal and formal coaching support to team.
  • Problem solving: Assisting staff in resolving complex problems while ensuring adherence to standards & objectives
  • Decision making: To make recommendations and take decisions on technical or complex underwriting functions.
  • Customer service: To ensure that customer service standards are maintained in accordance with service level agreements and to assist with technical advice and other assistance over and above the normal underwriting duties
  • Operations Management: Ensure that targets and standards are maintained. Manage compliance with SLA's
  • TCF: Ensure customers are treated fairly.
  • Monitoring and controlling expenses
  • Ensure SOPs are in place with regards to UW Reinsurance and systems are correctly documented and adhered to, ensuring High quality of work standards In these areas
  • Ensure the optimal people structures and skills are in place and that the work streams i.e., Operations, UW, Claims, Distribution are well coordinated within Speciality Space and into larger distribution space
