The Assistant Hotel General Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting this journey, ensuring that every aspect of the guest experience reflects sophistication, warmth, and attention to detail.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this key leadership position provides strategic direction across all operational departments and plays a vital role in shaping the hotels long-term success.
Qualifications and Criteria

  • Minimum 10 years of senior hotel leadership experience, including 3 to 5 years as an Executive Assistant Manager, Deputy General Manager, or Hotel Manager in a large, high-volume operation of 200 rooms plus.
  • Proven ability to manage all core areas including Rooms, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Spa, Guest Experience, Security, and Engineering.
  • Strong financial and commercial understanding with experience in full P&L management, forecasting, and profitability delivery.
  • Recognised for strategic and entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to adapt in a competitive marketplace.
  • Skilled in leading large, diverse teams with confidence, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Cape Town hospitality market, supported by strong commercial awareness and professional relationships.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills with credibility among owners, investors, and high-profile clients.
  • Applicants must hold a valid South African ID.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the Assistant Hotel General Manager, you will:
  • Oversee the performance of all departments to ensure smooth, profitable, and high-quality operations.
  • Partner with the General Manager to develop and execute strategic and commercial initiatives.
  • Drive financial performance through accurate budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a large workforce of more than 200 employees, cultivating a culture of accountability, innovation, and service excellence.
  • Represent and strengthen the hotels brand reputation with guests, owners, and the broader community.
  • Champion guest experience programmes that deliver memorable and meaningful stays.
  • Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing team to grow market share and align operational delivery with commercial goals.
  • Partner with Human Resources to attract, retain, and develop top-performing talent and build a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, health, safety, and industry standards.
  • Monitor market and competitor activity and adjust strategies to maintain a strong competitive advantage.
  • Act as a key decision-maker in all areas of operations, guest experience, and business development.
