Job Description


Our client is looking for a Workshop Manager in Johannesburg.

Duties (included but not limited to):

  • Production Scheduling provide input, compilation, determining work durations and report back on Artisans progress.
  • Unlock / Lockup, machinery on/off, lights on/off, of premises with assistance from staff as delegated. Includes shutting gate or chain to direct visitors Sales Office.
  • Keep general workshop materials stocked.
  • Ensure workshop staff understand job specifications and timeframes for the job. Support workshop staff in completion of jobs and development of skills (training).
  • Sign off Works and Repair Orders as complete and complete quality checks on jobs prior to jobs being released to customer.
  • Forward Works Orders to Internal Sales for processing.
  • Verifying accuracy of Works Orders, receiving, reporting and other administrative paperwork.
  • Identifying and implementing areas of work that can be improved.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with other management staff to meet customer needs.
  • Assist with drawings where possible verification of information provided.
  • Fitting Turning Welding and Sheet Metal Work.
  • Assembly of Binsi Brakes, Brake Motors, Clutches and repairs.
  • Maintenance of machines and other equipment as per Schedule.
  • Machines and Artisans Tool Control.
  • Monitoring staff start and finish times.
  • Co-ordinate any overtime work required.
  • Be available for regular staff meetings as required by management.
  • Familiarise yourself with Company processes and procedures.
  • Housekeeping - ensure workshop and machines are clean.
  • Annual Stock Taking.
  • Building Maintenance.
  • Targets:
  • Reducing job return rate.
  • Raising job satisfaction and morale of workshop staff.
  • Meeting or exceeding Key Performance Indicators Customer issues, Productivity, Efficiency and On Time completion.
  • Fitter & Turner Trade or Tool & Die Maker Trade or Mechanical Engineer Diploma.
  • 3 years experience
  • Hands-on experience in managing staff in a workshop environment.
  • Managed personnel, ideally have been a foreman or workshop manager
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • The ideal candidate should have an engineering background knowledge in a workshop environment:
  • Be assertive.
  • Able to instil discipline.
  • Follow company protocols and ensure that jobs are completed on due date.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
  • Quality management experience.
  • Good housekeeping.
