Welcome guests, show to bar seating or tables (if applicable), present drink menus and offer recommendations.
Take drink orders (and possibly light food orders if bar serves snacks/appetisers), input into POS, serve drinks promptly.
Maintain service standards: ensure glasses are clean, garnishes correct, drinks served with appropriate accompaniments.
Monitor guests for additional orders, upsell specials/promotions.
Clear and reset tables/bar seats, maintain cleanliness of guest areas (bar top, seating, deck area).
Assist with bar runner duties: restocking supplies (napkins, condiments, glassware) from the bar/back-of-house.
Ensure guest satisfaction: respond to requests, pass along feedback to bar or manager, deal with complaints professionally.
Work with bartenders and other staff to ensure smooth flow of service, especially during events or busy times.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Previous serving experience in a bar/cocktail lounge/restaurant preferred (1-2 years).
Excellent guest service skills: friendly, proactive, able to anticipate guest needs.
Comfortable working evenings, weekends and holiday shifts.
Ability to stand/walk for long periods, carry trays or multiple drinks safely.
Good communication skills, team-oriented, calm under pressure.
Legally able to work in South Africa; S.A. ID or valid work permit required.
Desirable Extras:
Knowledge of cocktails or wine service to make recommendations to guests.
Experience in an outdoor or roof-deck setting (wind, weather changes, event flow).
Basic food & beverage service training or bar service certification.
