Underwriting Manager

Introduction:
We are currently recruiting for a qualified and experienced Underwriting Manager to join our dynamic team.

Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications:

  • Industry specific credits/qualification
  • Class Of Business (compulsory)
  • CPD (compulsory)
  • RE1 (preferred)
  • RE5 (compulsory)
Experience:
  • Commercial and personal lines insurance - 5 years minimum
  • Underwriting binder mandate management - 2 years minimum
  • People management - 2 years minimum
  • 3rd Party Policy Administration System experience (preferred)
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and meet stakeholder needs, including giving them regular feedback.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and improvement.
  • Maintain clear accountability of team members.
  • Ensure resource capacity is aligned to the needs of the business.
  • Ensure relevant processes and procedures are followed.
  • Plan and monitor development by scheduling and tracking team progress against performance.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field of expertise, ensuring personal and professional growth.
  • Understand and embrace the Hereford Direct vision and values, leading by example.
  • Maintain a client service culture through various interventions.
  • Maintain operational excellence.
  • Encourage the team to generate innovative ideas and share knowledge.
  • Allocate performance targets for the team.
  • Review targets against performance.
  • Make recommendations for alternate improvements to the business by reviewing non-performing areas.
  • Ensure quality service standards are agreed to and delivered on.
  • Manage performance of staff by implementing performance agreements and ensuring a clear vision.
  • Mentor and coach staff on identified performance gaps.
  • Manage outsourced and binder mandates in line with insurer guidelines and company processes
  • Motivate staff to perform and contribute to the success of the business by creating an environment of teamwork through engaging with staff (sharing information) and encouraging participation in decision making processes.
  • Maintain a high performing team and ensure an environment for optimal performance is created by identifying talent and by developing talent enhancement and retention initiatives.
  • Manage the on-boarding and off-boarding process of employees.
  • Ensure compliance standards are achieved and maintained (i.e. Labour relations, FSP compliance, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity)
  • Maintain FSP fit & proper requirements of representatives
  • Manage client complaints
  • Compiling necessary report for feedback to senior management and insurers
  • Upskilling of staff (technical, regulatory and soft skills)
  • Manage a unified team of individuals
