The Tyre Breakdown Technician is responsible for attending to tyre-related breakdowns, repairs, and replacements on fleet vehicles, ensuring minimal downtime and safe roadworthy standards. The role requires technical tyre knowledge, the ability to respond to emergencies, and adherence to safety and operational procedures within a transport environment.
Responsibilities
Respond promptly to tyre breakdowns on-site or on-route and perform repairs or replacements.
Inspect tyre damage to determine repair or replacement needs.
Operate and maintain tyre maintenance equipment safely.
Assist with regular fleet tyre inspections to prevent issues.
Record and report breakdowns, repairs, and parts used.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, transport laws, and company policies.
Maintain tyre, tool, and spare parts inventory and request replacements as needed.
Collaborate with fleet management to schedule preventative maintenance and reduce downtime.
Stay updated on tyre technologies, safety standards, and best practices.
Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Relevant technical certification in vehicle or tyre maintenance is preferred.
Minimum 2-4 years' experience in tyre maintenance or transport fleet breakdown support.
Knowledge of tyre types, repair methods, and vehicle specifications.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency breakdowns.
Strong problem-solving and mechanical skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver's license
Physically fit to handle tyre repair equipment and work in outdoor conditions.
