Job Description

We are a leading transport and logistics group seeking an experienced

Transport Breakdown Controller

to oversee and coordinate rapid response solutions for vehicle breakdowns and incidents across our national fleet. The ideal candidate is a proactive, highly organized operations professional with strong experience in fleet management, real-time incident coordination, and vendor liaison within a transport or logistics-intensive environment.

Key responsibilities

Respond immediately to all breakdown calls and diagnose issues remotely when possible. Dispatch mechanics, recovery vehicles, towing, tyre services, or roadside assistance as needed. Track each breakdown from start to finish, ensuring driver safety and proper communication. Verify driver location, load status, and vehicle condition, and ensure breakdown reports and photos are submitted. Coordinate with workshops, suppliers, towing partners, and service providers, and escalate major incidents to the Transport Manager. Keep customers updated on delays and communicate with fleet controllers and drivers throughout the process. Record all breakdowns in the system, capture costs, and prepare daily/weekly reports. Compare quotes, negotiate costs, and ensure breakdowns are handled cost-effectively. Monitor recurring faults and recommend preventative actions. Coordinate with interns to send the closest person to the call-out location.
