Transport Manager - DurbanRCL Foods is recruiting for a driven, highly energized, collaborative and people orientated Transport Manager within the baking business unit.The suitable candidate will be required to optimise the transport operations across the region thereby facilitating effective deployment of stock in accordance with customer service levels at the lowest cost. To manage and maintain the fleet and transport team in the region thereby ensuring that productivity and performance are maximized.This role will be based in Durban and reporting to the General Manager.This role is a Permanent role.Duties & ResponsibilitiesStrategy ExecutionWork in conjunction with the Regional Operations Manager and the National Transport Manager to co-create the national and provincial transport managementWork closely with the Warehouse Management to ensure the delivery of an integrated supply chain benefit and strategic targetDrive the implementation of improvements in transport operations to achieve significant gains inEnsure the implementation of transport operations and maintenance policies and procedures across the region.Fleet OptimisationEnsure effective forward planning through direct and regular interaction with cross-functional planning and operations teams.Liaise with Principals to agree the number of turns and deliveries receiving managers and controllers to facilitate turnaround.Monitor exception and utilisation reports on a daily basis and follow up on non- conformances or inefficiencies to ensure fleetEnsure vehicle maintenance programmes adhere to company policy and manufacturerDirect investigations to verify and resolve customerConduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safetyAnalyse regional transport costs and other financial information in order to implement plans, budgets and interventions that increase profits and improveNegotiate and authorise contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contractParticipate in daily management meetings to ensure alignment acrossRisk ManagementEnsure the conformance criteria for vehicle performance and maintenance are adheredEnsure compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing vehicle safety, environmental controls on fuel emissions, driver hours, customs requirements, and food, livestock and hazardous goodsInvestigate and report all Injuries on Duty (IODxe2x80x99s).Cost ManagementManage and monitor the operating and maintenance costs associated with the fleet and ensure they are in line with accepted.Team ManagementMonitor team performance and provide regular performanceCoach and support the team where necessary to achieveLead the team towards meeting the strategy and targets through regular communication and utilisation of the full organisational talent management toolAddress poor performance in individuals and teams in accordance with company policy and the relevantConduct regular meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.Minimum RequirementsQualification and Experience:Minimum of a degree or diploma in logistics managementValid Code EB drivers' licenceA minimum of 5 years in a transport/fleet management environmentBehaviour StandardsBe brilliant at the basicsFace the brutal factsSmash the silosLead with integrity, respect and energyBe curious and challenge changeTake accountability for results and peopleKnowledgeSupply chain principles and methodologiesCompany and Group economics (supply and demand)Transport and road regulations and bylawsTransport performance benchmarksVehicle specificationsSkillsFinancial managementPlanning, organisation and coordinationRelationship buildingComputer literacy (MS Office)Verbal and written communicationInterpersonalLogical thinkingInnovative and creative thinkingProblem solvingCritical thinkingDecision-makingAnalytical and evaluative thinkingAttributesInitiative and assertivenessTolerance of stress and pressureAttention to detailDeadline drivenAble to prioritiseOrganisational awarenessPeople managementHigh-energy self-starter as well as collaborative team player
