Job Description


Our valued client is seeking a Professional Engineer (PrEng) in Civil Engineering who specializes in water projects with pump stations and water pipelines typically involves a range of responsibilities related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of water infrastructure. In this role you will be the supporting engineer to the Associate Director of Water Systems Africa. This role is based in CPT and Ideally we seek a person who is from the Western Cape and who understands the water industry in that province. Our client is a consulting firm who operates worldwide. Here follows a brief description of your duties should you be shortlisted for an interview : * Project Planning: Conducting feasibility studies, assessing the water supply requirements, and determining the scope and objectives of water projects. This may involve analyzing population growth, water demand projections, and evaluating the existing infrastructure.

  • Design and Engineering: Developing detailed designs and engineering solutions for pump stations and water pipelines. This includes selecting appropriate materials, determining pipeline routes, specifying pump types and capacities, hydraulic calculations, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Construction Management: Overseeing the construction phase of water projects, which involves coordinating with contractors, monitoring progress, ensuring adherence to design specifications, conducting site inspections, and resolving any construction-related issues.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Implementing quality control measures to ensure the reliability and performance of pump stations and water pipelines. This includes conducting inspections, testing materials, and monitoring construction processes to meet established quality standards.
  • Project Management: Managing project timelines, budgets, and resources. This involves coordinating with stakeholders, preparing project schedules, cost estimates, and progress reports, and ensuring projects are delivered within the allocated resources and timeframes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle. This may involve conducting environmental impact assessments, obtaining necessary permits, and implementing appropriate measures to mitigate any potential environmental or safety risks.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Addressing operational issues, conducting system troubleshooting, and developing maintenance plans for pump stations and water pipelines. This includes conducting periodic inspections, identifying maintenance needs, and implementing preventive maintenance measures to ensure the longevity and reliability of the infrastructure.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, contractors, and government agencies. Effective communication and coordination skills are crucial for successful project delivery, as the engineer may need to work with diverse stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
Must Have:

Civil or Mechanical Engineering Degree

Pr. Eng Certification

Open to all South Africans or Perm Residency Candidates

Must have 15 years' experience within water projects

Must have been the technical lead or project manager on Pump Station and Water Pipeline projects.

Ideally from Cape Town, if not committed to relocation

Willing to present solutions to clients to improve networks and new opportunities.
