Minimum 3-5 years of culinary experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role (Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef, or Senior Chef de Partie) in a hotel or upscale restaurant.
Recognized culinary degree, diploma, or certification.
Strong cooking and presentation skills, with knowledge of various cuisines.
Good understanding of food cost control and kitchen administration.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Must be eligible to work in South Africa and provide valid work authorization.
Must have reliable transportation and be able to commute to the hotel daily.
Assist the Head Chef in planning and executing menus, specials, and banqueting events.
Supervise food preparation and ensure dishes are prepared to the hotel's quality standards.
Ensure proper portioning, presentation, and consistency of dishes.
Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, including inventory, stock rotation, and ordering.
Monitor kitchen workflow and delegate tasks effectively to junior chefs and kitchen staff.
Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety, and hotel standards at all times.
Guide, mentor, and train junior chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants.
Conduct pre-shift briefings and communicate expectations clearly.
Foster teamwork and maintain a positive, professional kitchen environment.
Assist in monitoring food costs, waste management, and portion control.
Support sourcing of ingredients and supplier relations to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
Suggest improvements in operational processes for greater efficiency.
Ensure all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained.
Promote safe working practices and enforce compliance with safety regulations.
Conduct routine checks and correct any lapses in hygiene standards.
