Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of the Western Cape is internationally recognised for its learning, teaching, and research excellence. The Faculty comprises nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy and several world-class research institutes and Centres. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.
The School of Pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) provides a well-established and respected degree in Pharmacy. Our teaching and research is interdisciplinary with core focus areas in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacy Practice. The School of Pharmacy intends to appoint a highly skilled Senior Officer to support and enhance research and teaching capacity in the discipline of Pharmaceutics.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:

• Preparation, administration and supervision of practical sessions in Pharmaceutics.
• Implementation and upholding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards in the laboratory.
• Operating, maintaining and management of analytical equipment, including overseeing equipment usage and booking schedules in liaison with other technical officers.
• Training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in laboratory and research techniques.
• Managing procurement processes by liaising with suppliers and coordinating the purchase of equipment, chemicals and consumables, etc. for the School of Pharmacy.
• Undertaking additional tasks as assigned by the Director, Deputy Director or Discipline Head.
• The incumbent will work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of an established team.

Minimum Requirements

• B.Sc. Honours. or equivalent degree, in Pharmaceutical, Chemical or Physical Sciences.
• Experience in the tertiary education environment and/or pharmaceutical/chemical industry, particularly in areas such as practical supervision, analytical techniques, equipment maintenance and procurement.
• Proven experience in training and supervising students in a learning environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal abilities.

• Planning and organizing skills and ability to adapt to a dynamic operational environment.
• Communication skills and computer literacy.
• Student-centred approach with a commitment to mentoring and developing pharmacy students.
