Job Description


The incumbent of this role will be an experienced Culinary Skills Lecturer with a minimum of 5 years Lecturing experience at recognized tertiary institutions at a Senior Level. This role will require the incumbent to prepare lecturers, Portfolio of Evidence (POE) activities and support material according to programme syllabi and school policy. The incumbent should also be proficient tin the development of course material and assessment tools for both knowledge and practical components of course work for all culinary arts programmes and short courses. They will be required to facilitate lectures and skills development classes for full-time and part-time students and trainees as well as facilitate short course training, on and off campus. The incumbent should demonstrate proficient culinary skills and have intermediate knowledge on the assessment of PoE activities. Required Minimum Education and Work Experience:

  • NQF4 essential
  • Driverxe2x80x99s license required
  • A level 7 Culinary Arts qualification or equivalent
  • Registration with ETDP SETA as an Assessor.
  • Scoped by CATHSSETA to assess the national Certificate I Professional
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant, practical industry experience i.e. in Culinary Arts.
  • Minimum of 5 years lecturing / teaching experience.
  • Ability to interact with students.
  • An understanding of all legislation relevant to education and training in South Africa.
  • Computer literate and competent in MS Office suite.
  • Good presentation and culinary skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language, written and spoken.
Key Performance Areas: Academic Administration:
  • Prepare schemes of work for courses offered
  • Develop exam questions for the national examination database
  • Mark coursework and assessments (including student exams)
  • Management of all aspects of the practical kitchen including: food and equipment stock control; ordering ingredients required for all practical work.
Teaching and Learning Support:
  • Communication with school management, students and parents / sponsors regarding student performance
  • Involvement in school bodies
  • Develop suitable approaches to the learning experience and the curriculum and originate content methodology.
  • Design, and review on a regular basis, content of learning material updating when required, while ensuring content complies with the quality standards of the Academy.
  • Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement.
  • Identify learning needs of students and define learning objectives.
  • Challenge thinking, foster debate and encourage the development of intellectual reasoning and rigour.
  • Monitor performance of students through appropriate assessment criteria and provide effective feedback and guidance.
  • Supervise studentsxe2x80x99 projects, fieldtrips and where appropriate, placements.
Service Delivery:
  • Make independent decisions about content and teaching methods providing that they continue to meet the overall curriculum as laid down in the course handbook.
  • Provide input and advise to support the decision making of others
  • Make decisions collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Provide a service to students i.e. preparing for and delivering teaching and learning that covers the curriculum outline.
  • Review the summative and formative feedback and student assessments.
  • Attend Programme Boards.
  • Adapt modules appropriately to ensure quality.
Communication:
  • Receive, understand and convey information, using a range of written material, in a clear and accurate manner from routine (e.g. e-mail, memos and letters) to complex (contribution to the production of validation documents and other papers for committees or external bodies for funding and accreditation purposes).
  • Actively participate in scholarly activity or research (e.g. write up research outcomes for presentations/conferences)
  • Convey concepts and theories effectively in lectures.
  • Provide clear and consistent feedback to students continuously.
