The Department of Public Law and Jurisprudence is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision, research, and community engagement in the fields of public law (constitutional law, administrative law, and public international law) as well as jurisprudence. The successful candidate for the vacant position in the Department of Public Law and Jurisprudence will join the public law stream, with specific emphasis on public international law, and be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Academic leadership within the Department (Associate Professor or Professor)
  • Facilitation of learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Conducting research and publishing in the field of public law and/or jurisprudence
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Academic administration
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Community engagement
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements for the position of Professor:
  • LLD or equivalent, in the field of public law, or a related field
  • extensive teaching experience in the field of public law
  • an outstanding record of quality peer-reviewed publications in the field of public law
  • an excellent record of successful postgraduate supervision at Master's and Doctoral level
  • evidence of expertise and of international recognition in the field of public law
  • the integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
Minimum Requirements for the position of Associate Professor:
  • LLD or equivalent, in the field of public law, or a related field
  • teaching experience in the field of public law
  • a significant record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of public law
  • a record of successful postgraduate supervision, at least at Master's level, and
  • evidence of expertise, national standing, and an international presence in the field of public law
  • the integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
Minimum Requirements for the position of Senior Lecturer:
  • LLD or equivalent, in the field of public law or a related field
  • teaching experience, in the field of public law
  • a record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of public law
  • a record of successful supervision at LLB final year level, whilst supervision at Master's and Doctoral level would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated competence in community engagement.
The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment at the levels of Professor, Associate Professor, and Senior Lecturer:
  • A doctorate, teaching experience and research publications in the field of public international law.
Minimum requirements for the position of Lecturer:
  • LLM or equivalent in the field of public law, or a related fiel
The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment at lecturer level:
  • Registration for and progress with a doctorate in the field of public law (preferably public international law), or a related field
  • Evidence of supervision experience at LLB or Master's level
  • Teaching experience at LLB or at Master's level
  • Evidence of peer reviewed research publications
  • a professional qualification and/or practical experience in the field of public law
