To oversee, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including medium voltage (MV) power distribution and generator systems, ensuring safe and reliable power supply for company operations. The Senior Electrician will also mentor junior electricians and ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair
medium voltage electrical systems (up to 33kV)
, including transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
Conduct
preventive and corrective maintenance
on
generators
, control panels, and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
Perform
fault-finding, testing, and troubleshooting
on MV and LV (Low Voltage) systems.
Ensure
safe isolation procedures
are followed before working on electrical circuits or equipment.
Oversee installation and commissioning of
standby power systems
and ensure seamless power transition.
Carry out
load assessments
, cable sizing, and electrical design interpretation.
Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records for all electrical assets.
Supervise and train
apprentices and junior electricians
to ensure skills transfer and compliance with safety standards.
Perform
routine inspections
of electrical installations to ensure compliance with
SANS, OHSA, and company standards
.
Coordinate with engineers and maintenance teams on
electrical upgrades and projects
.
Respond to electrical emergencies and breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
Maintain inventory of electrical tools, parts, and consumables.
Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and ensure full
adherence to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment)
policies.
Qualifications & Experience
N6 Electrical Engineering
or equivalent qualification.
Trade Test Certificate (Electrician)
- Section 13 / Section 26D (Recognized by the Department of Labour).
Minimum 5-8 years of experience
as an electrician, with at least
3 years at a senior or supervisory level
.
Proven experience with
medium voltage systems
(switchgear, transformers, protection relays).
Proven experience in
diesel generator systems
, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
Wireman's License
(advantageous).
Valid
Driver's License
.
Sound understanding of
electrical drawings and schematics
.
