Job Description


Job Summary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload and handle all phases of litigation from inception to resolution.
  • Conduct extensive legal research and analysis to provide accurate and timely legal advice to clients.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery materials.
  • Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the litigation process.
  • Collaborate with partners and other attorneys to develop case strategies and tactics.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates and candidate attorneys on litigation matters.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents affecting litigation practice areas.
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files, documents, and correspondence.
  • Assist with business development initiatives, including client presentations and networking events.
  • Update clients regularly about their matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all courts.
  • Professional client service and matter management.
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
  • LLB Degree and strong academic credentials
  • Admission as an Attorney in South Africa
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation attorney, with a focus on complex commercial litigation, extensive knowledge of Company law and law of contract
  • Strong conveyance knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and litigation strategies
  • Strong background in handling legal disputes and representing clients in court proceedings.
  • Excellent drafting skills (notices, pleadings, and all other court related documents)
  • Must be able to run with own matters under minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to develop strong relationships with clients and take responsibility for the relationship.
  • Experience in managing juniors in the team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Experience managing multiple cases and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Confidence and proficiency in representing clients in court and other legal proceedings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Leadership abilities and the capacity to supervise and mentor juniors.
  • Business acumen and the ability to contribute to business development efforts.
  • Proficiency in using legal research databases.
  • Experience in arbitration and mediation of commercial disputes.
