Duties/Pligte
Managing the electronic online health research ethics application system.
Assigning protocol categories and allocating ethics reference numbers.
Managing and updating the HREO database for all new ethics submissions and compiling the allocation lists for HREC 1 and 2.
Providing input into the improvement of online application forms and other system enhancements.
Providing guidance and support to the HREO staff, i.e. Head: HREO, HREC/UREC coordinators and HREC/UREC administrators.
Guiding and supporting researchers/students/SU personnel with application submissions.
Providing training on the online submission system.
Liaising with IT and the Online System Custodian regarding system level requirements and challenges experienced.
Managing updates to applicant and reviewer online manuals based on system releases and updates.
Compiling reports for meetings and annual reporting to the National Health Research Ethics Council (NHREC).
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
National Diploma or NQF6 certificate in a relevant discipline with three years' relevant experience.
Knowledge of national and international ethics standards and guidelines for human research.
Recent experience with providing administrative and logistical support for human research ethics review processes within a South African higher education and/or research environment.
Advanced experience with MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
The ability to troubleshoot system-related issues and communicate effectively with IT teams.
The ability to work under pressure, use own initiative and meet deadlines.
The ability to work both independently/unsupervised and as part of a small, dedicated team in a broader organisational setting.
A flexible and professional approach to work and a willingness to learn new skills.
The ability to communicate professionally and effectively, demonstrating a strong sense of diplomacy and collegiality, both verbally and in writing.
The ability to review documents for quality control of applications and to pay attention to detail.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and to manage conflicts of interest.
Demonstrable agility in managing multiple priorities and tasks.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
Bachelor's degree/diploma in ethics.
Evidence of experience, knowledge and understanding of the implementation of an ethics review system.
Previous experience and knowledge of research administration/management in the South African Higher Education Research environment.
Extensive, relevant and recent administrative experience within a computerised environment.
Evidence of experience in maintaining high levels of organisation of documents and maintaining quick turnaround times.
