Job Description


The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide general administrative support to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens Environmental Education Centre.

This position requires a Grade 12 or equivalent qualification at NQF 4 with 5 years of work experience in the relevant field or a national diploma or advanced certificate or equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 3 years of work experience in the relevant field. A degree or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 will be an added advantage.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: comprehensive knowledge and understanding of financial procedures, processes, and practices; advance knowledge and experience in handling and processing procurement, project, budget, and human resources related activities for the centre; proven ability to manage petty cash; comprehensive knowledge and understanding of legislation, policies, procedures, practices, systems, and frameworks related to office/centre management and administration; proven ability to work under pressure and with a diverse team, whilst being quality, cost, and safety conscious; advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal, file management, problem solving, project and event management skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) are essential. The possession of a valid driver's licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Perform all reception activities;
  • Ensure all administrative duties, documentation for the Environmental Education Centre are completed and provide support to EE Centre Managers, EE officers both full and part-time and interns;
  • Provide financial support to the Centre Manager and all environmental education activities; and
  • Perform administration duties related to school programmes, training and awareness raising programmes.
