IQbusiness is seeking to employ a scriptwriter / interactive fiction writer to join an overseas team working from our offices in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.

The available opportunity is for a 12 month fixed term contract.

The job's mission: We are seeking a highly experienced Scriptwriter to join our dynamic creative video production & innovation teams. As a script- / interactive fiction writer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the visual storytelling of our projects. Your expertise in writing scripts from education games to marketing to institutional videos will be crucial in delivering high-quality outputs that captivate audiences and exceed stakeholder and client expectations.

Main Responsibilities * Scriptwriting for Online Video Content and learning: Develop engaging, informative, and well-structured scripts for faculty-led online videos that cover various business-related topics, ensuring the content is accessible and suitable for learners at different levels.

• Scriptwriting for institutional, thought leadership and promotional/marketing videos
• Interactive Fiction/Game Writing: Create interactive narratives and scenarios for educational games and simulations, designing compelling storylines and character arcs that align with the business school's curriculum and learning objectives.
• Business Acumen: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the business world, including key concepts, practices, and current trends, to effectively integrate relevant content into the scripts and interactive fiction.
• Faculty Collaboration: Collaborate closely with faculty members to understand their pedagogical objectives, style preferences, and expertise, incorporating their input into the scripts to enhance the authenticity and credibility of the content.
• Learner-Centric Approach: Develop content that places learners at the centre of the experience, encouraging active engagement and critical thinking while addressing various learning styles and preferences.
• Dialogue and Character Development: Craft realistic and authentic dialogue for faculty and non-player characters (NPCs) in interactive scenarios, ensuring characters are well-developed and exhibit appropriate personalities and behaviours.
• Educational Impact: Ensure that scripts and interactive fiction effectively deliver the intended educational outcomes, reinforcing key learning points and promoting practical application in real-world business contexts.
• Script Review and Iteration: Review and revise scripts based on feedback from stakeholders, incorporating improvements and adjustments to achieve the desired learning objectives and narrative flow.
• Multimodal Writing: Adapt writing style and content for various mediums, including online videos, interactive games, and text-based scenarios, to optimize the learning experience across different platforms.
• Storyboarding and Narrative Visualization: Collaborate with multimedia teams to visualize and storyboard video content and interactive game scenarios, ensuring a cohesive and engaging learning experience.

Expertise and Qualifications: * Proven Scriptwriting Experience: Demonstrated experience in scriptwriting, preferably in the context of educational content, online videos, or interactive fiction/game development.

• Business and Education Background: A solid understanding of the business world, obtained through a relevant degree, professional experience, or a combination of both, with familiarity in academic environments.
• Creative Writing Skills: Exceptional creative writing abilities, with a talent for crafting engaging narratives, dialogue, and character development that resonate with learners.
• Collaborative and Adaptive: Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, multimedia teams, and other stakeholders, adapting writing style and content to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
• Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with interactive fiction platforms, game development tools, and multimedia production processes is a plus, as it enables seamless integration of written content into various formats.
• Intellectual Curiosity: A hunger for knowledge and a genuine interest in exploring diverse business topics and teaching methodologies to continually improve the quality and impact of the content.
• Organizational and Time Management Skills: Capable of managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and maintaining a high level of quality and consistency in written work.
• Adaptability to Feedback: Willingness to receive and apply constructive feedback from faculty and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the scripts and interactive fiction.
• Passion for Education: A strong passion for education and an understanding of how interactive fiction and storytelling can be powerful tools for facilitating learning in a business school setting.
• Portfolio or Samples: Providing a portfolio or samples of previous scriptwriting or interactive fiction work will be advantageous in demonstrating relevant expertise and writing capabilities.

Education

• Degree/Certificate in Film Production, Scriptwriting, or a related field

Requirements and competencies

• A strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in script writing across different styles.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a creative agency, production studio, or related environment.
• Expert understanding of visual storytelling, composition, and pacing.
• Strong communication skills to properly collaborate with producers and team members.
