Job Description

Job Purpose




Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to conduct animal science research, assessment, evaluation, development, innovation, ensure the protection and sustainability of resources and contribute towards a knowledge economy.

Minimum Requirements




An appropriate 4-year Degree: BSc (Hons) in Genetics or BSc (Agric) in Animal Science; Compulsory registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions) as a Professional Natural Scientist in Animal Science or Biological Science; Three years post qualification (research) experience; A valid driving licence.

The following will be advantageous: MSc (Agric) or PhD in Animal Sciences/ MSc or PhD in Genetics; A record of publication; Proven ability to conduct research in functional genetics/genomics/breeding within the context of agricultural production or farmed species; Experience with management and processing of scientific data related to genetic analyses.

Remuneration




Grade A: R 761 157 - Grade C: 1 144 008 (OSD as prescribed)



Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

These candidates will be required to complete a practical assessment and attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests.
