Hatch is seeking a Regional Manager Construction & Site Management for its Africa, India and Middle East (AIM) region, who will be reporting to the Global Construction Director as well as the AIM Regional Director, Project Management and Construction. The role is based in Hatchxe2x80x99s Johannesburg office.

The Regional Manager Construction & Site Management is responsible to provide construction technical/administrative and managerial expertise to all projects and clients within the AIM region as well as to ensure a qualified workforce to satisfy projects and clientsxe2x80x99 needs. Further, the Regional Manager Construction & Site Management is the construction subject matter custodian for the AIM region.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in study and project proposal development where construction is part of the scope of work, through method statements, write-ups, resourcing and other estimates, etc.
  • Responsible for Construction support, including Construction planning inputs and deliverables across the project life cycle through Prefeasibility (FEL2), Feasibility (FEL3), Basic and Detailed Engineering phases, as well as in Execution Planning and Execution Support (FEL4).
  • Management and coordination of construction staff on all execution projects, project sites, and those that are office based.
  • Site resource sourcing and staffing and project assignment management.
  • Directing, guiding and coordinating site assigned construction managers and site staff, to achieve effective Construction execution.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of construction execution strategies at the commencement of each project in line with construction execution plans.
  • Coach, mentor and guide construction personnel and provide leadership, support and direction to construction managers and construction teams.
  • Managing the participation of Construction in constructability, risk reviews, safety, lifting studies and model reviews of projects.
  • Construction inputs and estimates for proposals.
  • Build relationships with clients across the AIM region, showcase construction capabilities and build portfolio of work.
  • Provide technical support and governance to projects across the AIM region to ensure construction is being according to Hatchxe2x80x99s standards.
  • Manage workload and chargeability for Construction in the AIM region.
  • Ensure implementation of HSE culture through the various stages of construction execution to the handover of facilities.
  • Visit Hatch project sites, and provide inputs on Construction matters.
  • Responsible for the overall Construction team in the AIM region and to oversee the recruitment, mobilization, training, supervision and de-mobilization of personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience Requirements

The position requires substantial management, influence and communications skills. The incumbent must have knowledge, skills and ability to manage a diverse group of technical, project and operating personnel.

The position requires an experienced construction manager with over 15 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in construction management across various sectors including mining and metals, minerals processing facilities, infrastructure, and energy sectors. The following are considered essential requirements:
  • Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the construction phase of project delivery, and extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures, safe work practices, an applicable legislation
  • Formal construction management qualification, engineering degree, or equivalent
  • Minimum of ten years of previous construction management experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to lead a team and fit into a team environment
  • Previous experience leading construction on multiple major EPCM projects, ideally mega project(s)
  • Extensive knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to field activities of all engineering disciplines, construction and maintenance practices, procedures and techniques, and applicable codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, organizational charts and work flow processes
  • Client engagement on construction topics and matters
  • Clear thinker, able to divide a job into small logical steps
  • Familiarity with a wide range of equipment, tools, and technologies used in the construction industry, incl experience with Advance Work Packaging (AWP) and Construction Work Packages (CWP)
  • Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflow in the execution of projects
  • Good understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies in a project environment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Human Resource (HR) practices
  • Well-developed business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership and coordination of people and resources
  • Excellent written English
  • Whilst the roles is Johannesburg-based, the role requires travel to project sites, other Hatchxe2x80x99 offices and Clientxe2x80x99s offices
