Quality Control Manager - Poultry Abattoir

Job Purpose

The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining food safety, quality assurance, and compliance systems within the poultry abattoir. The role ensures that all products meet legal, customer, and internal quality standards while maintaining high levels of hygiene and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain

HACCP, GMP, and food safety systems

Ensure compliance with

Department of Agriculture, DALRRD, NRCS, and Veterinary Public Health

requirements Oversee

quality inspections

across slaughter, processing, packaging, and dispatch Manage

microbiological and chemical testing

programs Investigate and resolve

non-conformances, customer complaints, and product deviations

Lead and manage the

Quality Control team

, including training and performance management Conduct

internal audits

and support external audits (customer, regulatory, certification) Ensure correct

documentation, traceability, and record-keeping

Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and Logistics to maintain quality standards Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance food safety and product quality Ensure compliance with

Occupational Health & Safety

and hygiene protocols

Minimum Requirements

Relevant

Degree or Diploma

in Food Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Quality Management, or similar Minimum

3-5 years' experience

in quality management within a

poultry abattoir

Strong working knowledge of

HACCP, GMP, FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000

(advantage) Sound understanding of

South African meat safety legislation

Experience managing and training QC teams Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and leadership abilities
