We're looking for a detail-driven Property Accountant / Bookkeeper to own the day-to-day books and the month-end close for a diverse property portfolio. You'll keep the ledgers spotless, manage tenant accounts, and produce timely, accurate reports that support smart decisions across the business.
What You'll Do
Daily / Weekly (Bookkeeping)
Record and reconcile AP/AR, receipts, payments, and journals across multiple properties.
Manage tenant billing & collections (rent rolls, statements, arrears follow-up).
Maintain supporting documentation and ensure data integrity across entities.
Perform bank, control, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Monthly / Quarterly (Accounting)
Prepare management packs (income statement, balance sheet, variance analysis, KPIs).
Post accruals, prepayments, depreciation, recoveries and closing adjustments.
Complete VAT/tax schedules and assist with submissions.
Monitor property-level cash flows and working capital.
Portfolio & Projects
Prepare recoverable charges and JV disbursement accounts.
Support budgets & forecasts; analyse performance vs plan and prior periods.
Maintain fixed asset registers and assist with capex/project cost reports.
Coordinate year-end: trial balances, audit schedules, and responses.
Controls & Systems
Strengthen internal controls and streamline processes/automation.
Use and improve reporting from property/accounting systems (e.g., MDA, MRI, Yardi, ACCPAC/Sage, Xero/QuickBooks; Caseware for financials).
Partner with property managers to ensure accuracy and timely information flow.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance (or equivalent).
Post-SAICA/SAIPA traineeship
1+ years post-traineeship in accounting or bookkeeping, ideally in property/real estate.
Strong grasp of accounting principles and financial reporting; VAT/tax exposure.
Proficiency in property accounting software (MDA/MRI/Yardi or similar) and advanced Excel.
Job Type: Permanent
Pay: R20000,00 - R30000,00 per month
