GENDER AND HEALTH RESEARCH UNIT

(LIMPOPO - WATERBERG RESEARCH SITE)

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation's health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. It further aims to promote equity, career development and progression.

Project Manager xe2x80x93 1 POST

Duration: 5 Year Contract

The South African Medical Research Council's Gender and Health Research Unit has been awarded funding from Wellcome Trust for a large study, entitled: Fedixc5xa1a Modikologo which aims to describe the impact of severe intimate partner violence on women and their families, to understand risk factors for intimate partner femicide, and drivers of intergenerational cycling of violence. The research will be conducted in the Waterberg Research Site based in Limpopo. This project requires a suitably qualified and experienced Project Manager. The job requires a Project Manager who will manage and implement the study, which will include, but is not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing the infrastructure and develop the local site in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Managing research activities
  • Manage the study staff to accomplish data collection, scientific documentation, and site management.
  • Recruiting and training staff on the Fedisa protocol, SOPs and other policies and procedures in conjunction with the PI
  • Establishing and maintaining stakeholder relations in the province.
  • Contribute scientifically to study tools.
  • Monitor, supervise and undertake quality control on all study data collection and informed consent procedures.
  • Ensure implementation of, and monitor, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Monitor, plan and implement processes to support staff member's mental health.
  • Manage and supervise the site's staff.
  • Oversee and ensure timetable adherence for participant recruitment and retention at the research site.
  • Manage resources at the site, including participant travel reimbursements and incentive cash payments and budget.
  • Manage the operational activities at the site and ensure it is a conducive environment for work and participant attendance.
  • Manage Quality control and assurance of the study being undertaken.
  • Stakeholder relations.
  • Contribute to Scientific report writing, publications and presentations.
Core Requirements:

Master's degree in social work, social or public health science or similar qualification or higher and
  • 5 years management experience, managing complex health programmes, monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of the programme
  • 5 years' experience providing psychosocial support to staff and programme participants from violence-exposed populations.
  • 3 years research project management experience, including staff management.
OR
  • 4-year degree, and currently registered for a relevant master's degree
  • 10 years management experience, managing complex health programmes, monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance of the programme
  • 10 years' experience providing psychosocial support to staff and programme participants from violence-exposed populations.
  • 5 years research project management experience, including staff management.
  • Experience working sensitively with traumatized research participants.
  • Experience working in a team and managing stakeholder groups
  • Fluency in speaking and writing in English and Sepedi or Setswana
  • A code 08 manual South African driver's license.
Advantageous:
  • Experience in GBV research or with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working with vulnerable children.
