The Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit (NCDRU) is looking for a seasoned project lead, to be appointed for the NCDRU Multimorbidity Study. The role requires a project manager who will help establish and independently manage the NCDRU Multimorbidity study, including its multiple sites (Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and KwaZulu Natal).
The role will entail research and research management - managing small fieldworker teams - engaging with research partners, train, and supervise fieldworkers, conduct the quality control and be responsible for managing, cleaning, and analyzing a complex data set (qualitative and quantitative).
The project leader will be responsible for reporting to the PI and project steering committee and setting up regular project meetings and weekly (or more, as needed) debriefings with field teams
The post holder must actively contribute to the SAMRC's transformation agenda.
Responsibilities will include:
Lead the establishment and operational rollout of the study at multiple sites.
Develop detailed work plans, timelines, and site-specific implementation schedules.
Coordinate logistics for fieldwork, including procurement of study materials and equipment.
Ensure adherence to research protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor project progress and adjust plans to meet deliverables and deadlines.
Develop SOPs
Organisation and management of data analysis and interpretation of data
Research activity report writing
Data management and analysis
Contribution to publications
Research Administration
Team leadership and Supervision

Remuneration
Remuneration commensurate with experience and qualifications
Job Requirements
Honors degree in health promotion or public health science or similar qualification or higher.
3 years management experience, managing health programmes or research projects, monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of the programme.
2 years' research project management experience, including staff management.
Experience in NCD research
Experience in community research
Experience working sensitively with research participants.
Experience working in a team and managing stakeholder groups
Fluency in speaking and writing in English and Afrikaans or Xhosa or Zulu
A code 08 manual South African driver's license.
Advantageous:
Master's degree in relevant field
5 years' experience in non-communicable diseases research, specifically community-based research
Familiarity with complex research studies in lower-socioeconomic communities
