Duties and responsibilities:

In consultation with the Academic Head of Department (AHD); undertake the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and curriculum processes of the postgraduate Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Develop new learning programmes in consultation with stakeholders where and if appropriate.
  • Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Provide general leadership in the Programme for Gender Studies and ensure academic coherence across all modules of the programme.
  • Account for financial management (annual budgeting, financial planning, allocation of funds, and financial control), and deployment of the resources needed for maximum benefit to the delivery of the Programme for Gender Studies in consultation with the Director: CGAS.
  • Ensure that the activities of the Programme for Gender Studies are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks of the Faculty of the Humanities and UFS.
  • Ensure the provision of top-quality, research-informed facilitation of learning to ensure practice-based learning and improvement.
  • Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Manage the academic administration and quality assurance processes of the Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Manage matters relating to teaching, learning, and students in the Programme for Gender Studies effectively.
  • Provide academic advice in terms of academic enquiries, amendments of yearbooks, schedules, timetables, etc. related to the Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Serve on the Faculty Management Committee of the Faculty of the Humanities as Programme Director.
  • Serve on the marketing committee of the Faculty as necessary.
  • Ensure the appropriate marketing of the Programme for Gender Studies.
  • Compile marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing material.
  • Ensure involvement in the introduction of the Programme for Gender Studies at postgraduate road shows and open days.
Inherent requirements:
  • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Gender Studies or related field.
  • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Centre for Gender and Africa Studies at the University of the Free State (UFS).
Recommendations:
  • Previous experience as Programme Director.

Allowance:
The Programme Director allowance is payable, which is calculated according to a transparent formula approved by the relevant decision-making structures of the UFS. The value of the allowance is available on request.
