Job Description

Role purpose:

• Development and oversight of corporate campaigns incorporating markets where Vodacom has a presence.
• Developing and implementing an effective Group corporate communications plan
• Drive compliance against Media Relations Policy
• Play a key role in supporting all elements of an external communications portfolio, which may change from time-to-time in line with operational requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing expert advice and guidance to external affairs practitioners across the Vodacom Group footprint, especially on corporate communications, media issues and queries that could potentially impact Vodacom's reputation.
• Develop and implement an effective plan for Group External Communications portfolio, aligned to Vodacom Strategy
• Develop and execute proactive campaigns to drive Group External Communications strategy and objectives.
• Respond effectively and timeously to immediate media issues to minimise negative impact on Vodacom Group's reputation.
• Analyse and identify trends involving African media, resulting in proactive insights into reputation management.
• Provide expert advice on relevant traditional and social media and paying specific attention to commercial implications and/or risks inherent in social media usage.
• Position Vodacom as a leading pan-African technology company that is purpose-led and drives a Social Contract in the markets in which it operates.
• Stakeholder and relationship management across Vodacom Group markets.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• 8-10 years relevant corporate communications, agency or media relations experience with at least five years direct / hands on experience working with the media.
• Extensive experience (5yrs or more) in a regulated industry e.g Telco, banking, etc within a multinational matrix organisation
• Relevant Degree or Diploma in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism or Public Relations.
• Experience in dealing with share-price sensitive information.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• Expert media relations skills in the telecommunications industry
• Good understanding of PR and reputation management practices.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, presentation, training, public speaking and people skills, with an ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Results driven, perseverance, proactive, responsible and an ethical person with a passion for external communications.
• Resilient and an ability to deliver in an ambiguous environment; organized and ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders to achieve the objective.
• Strategic mind-set focused on delivery of media relations in a large corporate.
• Project and budget management.
